    Intrusion Detection in Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks using Bayesian Game Methodology

    The dynamic and distributed nature of MANETs make them vulnerable to various types of attacks like black hole attack, traffic distortion, IP spoofing, DoS attack etc. Malicious nodes can launch attacks against other normal nodes and deteriorate the overall performance of the entire network [1�3]. Unlike in wired networks, there are no fixed checkpoints like router and switches in MANETs, where the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) can be deployed .However, due to limited wireless communication range and node mobility, nodes in MANET must cooperate with each other to provide networking services among themselves. Therefore, each node in a MANET acts both as a host and a router. Present Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) for MANETs require continuous monitoring which leads to rapid depletion of a node�s battery life. To avoid this issue we propose a system to prevent intrusion in MANET using Bayesian model based MAC Identification from multiple nodes in network. Using such system we can provide lightweight burden to nodes hence improving energy efficiency. Simulated results shows improvement in estimated delay and average bits transfer parameter

    Intrusion Detection in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Using Classification Algorithms

    In this paper we present the design and evaluation of intrusion detection models for MANETs using supervised classification algorithms. Specifically, we evaluate the performance of the MultiLayer Perceptron (MLP), the Linear classifier, the Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM), the Naive Bayes classifier and the Support Vector Machine (SVM). The performance of the classification algorithms is evaluated under different traffic conditions and mobility patterns for the Black Hole, Forging, Packet Dropping, and Flooding attacks. The results indicate that Support Vector Machines exhibit high accuracy for almost all simulated attacks and that Packet Dropping is the hardest attack to detect.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures, presented at MedHocNet 200

    A Lightweight and Attack Resistant Authenticated Routing Protocol for Mobile Adhoc Networks

    In mobile ad hoc networks, by attacking the corresponding routing protocol, an attacker can easily disturb the operations of the network. For ad hoc networks, till now many secured routing protocols have been proposed which contains some disadvantages. Therefore security in ad hoc networks is a controversial area till now. In this paper, we proposed a Lightweight and Attack Resistant Authenticated Routing Protocol (LARARP) for mobile ad hoc networks. For the route discovery attacks in MANET routing protocols, our protocol gives an effective security. It supports the node to drop the invalid packets earlier by detecting the malicious nodes quickly by verifying the digital signatures of all the intermediate nodes. It punishes the misbehaving nodes by decrementing a credit counter and rewards the well behaving nodes by incrementing the credit counter. Thus it prevents uncompromised nodes from attacking the routes with malicious or compromised nodes. It is also used to prevent the denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. The efficiency and effectiveness of LARARP are verified through the detailed simulation studies.Comment: 14 Pages, IJWM

    Fuzzy Logic based Intrusion Detection System against Black Hole Attack in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

    A Mobile Ad hoc NETwork (MANET) is a group of mobile nodes that rely on wireless network interfaces, without the use of fixed infrastructure or centralized administration. In this respect, these networks are very susceptible to numerous attacks. One of these attacks is the black hole attack and it is considered as one of the most affected kind on MANET. Consequently, the use of an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) has a major importance in the MANET protection. In this paper, a new scheme has been proposed by using an Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for mobile ad hoc networks to detect the black hole attack of the current activities.     Ad-hoc network is a collection of nodes that are capable to form dynamically a temporary network without the support of any centralized fixed infrastructure. Since there is no central controller to determine the reliable & secure communication paths in Mobile Adhoc Network, each node in the ad hoc network has to rely on each other in order to forward packets, thus highly cooperative nodes are required to ensure that the initiated data transmission process does not fail. In a mobile ad hoc network (MANET) where security is a crucial issue and they are forced to rely on the neighbor node, trust plays an important role that could improve the number of successful data transmission. Larger the number of trusted nodes, higher successful data communication process rates could be expected. In this paper, Black Hole attack is applied in the network, statistics are collected to design intrusion detection engine for MANET Intrusion Detection System (IDS). Feature extraction and rule inductions are applied to find out the accuracy of detection engine by using support vector machine. In this paper True Positive generated by the detection engine is very high and this is a novel approach in the area of Mobile Adhoc Intrusion detection system

    A Survey on Detection of Blackhole Attack using AODV Protocol in MANET

    A mobile ad-hoc network(MANET) is a self-configuring infrastructureless network of mobile devices. Each must forward traffic unrelated to its own use, and therefore be a router. The primary challenge in building a MANET is equipping each device to continuously maintain the information required to properly route traffic. A ODV (Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector) is a loop-free routing protocol for ad-hoc networks. It is designed to be self- starting in an environment of mobile nodes, withstanding a variety of network behaviours such as node mobility, link failures etc. Blackhole attackis a type of denial- of- service attack in which a router that is supposed to relay packets instead discards them. This usually occurs from a router becoming compromised from a number of different causes. One cause mentioned in research is through a denial -of -service attack on the router.Because packets are routinely dropped from a lossy network, the packet drop attack is very hard to detect and prevent.
