    NIDO (Navegación e Interacción con el usuario en el Desarrollo de sistemas de Información Web: Métodos, Técnicas y Herramientas) is a research project with two main lines of research. The first one is to continue with the research developed in the coordinated projects MENHIR (TIC97-0593-C05-03) and DOLMEN (TIC2000-1673-C06-03), while the second one is related to the opening of new research lines in order to cover specific aspects associated with the specification and development of web systems. The rapide advance of the internet has made web systems become one of the main lines of work in companies which produce software, and also, an important research line in universities, research centres and companies’ research departments. Therefore, one of the main aims of our research project is to define a methodological environment suitable to deal with navigational characteristics and user’s interaction in web systems. This approach has to cover aspects of the whole life cycle, from requirements to implementation and testing. Navigation and user interface are critical aspects in web systems. In order to make easier the application of our work, a second important goal is to give support to our approaches with tools that allow this kind of applications to be automated. Besides, in our work the definition of references and metrics to measure the grade of quality of the results is also a fundamental objective. Finally, an important characteristic of our project is the work with companies and our big interest in applying our results to real projects

    Conceptual design of an XML FACT repository for dispersed XML document warehouses and XML marts

    Since the introduction of eXtensible Markup Language (XML), XML repositories have gained a foothold in many global (and government) organizations, where, e-Commerce and e-business models have maturated in handling daily transactional data among heterogeneous information systems in multi-data formats. Due to this, the amount of data available for enterprise decision-making process is increasing exponentially and are being stored and/or communicated in XML. This presents an interesting challenge to investigate models, frameworks and techniques for organizing and analyzing such voluminous, yet distributed XML documents for business intelligence in the form of XML warehouse repositories and XML marts. In this paper, we address such an issue, where we propose a view-driven approach for modelling and designing of a Global XML FACT (GxFACT) repository under the MDA initiatives. Here we propose the GxFACT using logically grouped, geographically dispersed, XML document warehouses and Document Marts in a global enterprise setting. To deal with organizations? evolving decision-making needs, we also provide three design strategies for building and managing of such GxFACT in the context of modelling of further hierarchical dimensions and/or global document warehouses

    Enterprise resource planning systems are adopted to improve productivity and overall business performance in organizations. Implementation of these systems requires considerable financial and labour investment and therefore, the managers must understand the benefits of the system and the aspects of the system which need improvement. An approach to evaluate and track an ERP system’s success in corporate organizations is therefore, important. In this study, the success of ERP system is measured through the Ifinedo model and a comparison between private and public organizations is made. Interviews conducted by the researchers introduce factors influencing ERP implementation success in organizations. In addition, to understand why some organizations have achieved more ERP success than others, questionnaire responses to some identified critical success factors for ERP implementation are analyzed

    This paper elaborates the approach of using ontologies as a conceptual base for enterprise architecture (EA) descriptions. The method focuses on recognising and modelling business critical information concepts, their content, and semantics used to operate the business. Communication genres and open and semi-structured information need interviews are used as a domain analysis method. Ontologies aim to explicate the results of domain analysis and to provide a common reference model for Business Information Architecture (BIA) descriptions.     A decade of Portuguese research in e-government: Evolution, current standing, and ways forward

    In this paper, we present an investigation of the Portuguese research on e-government. Bibliometric techniques are used to explore all the documents published by researchers affiliated to Portuguese institutions from 2005 to 2014 and listed in the Scopus® database. Research production, impact, source types, language used, subject areas, topics, scopes, methods, authors, institutions, networks, and international cooperation are analysed and discussed. We conclude that so that Portuguese research on e-government can evolve, more researchers should be involved, international cooperation should be developed, and more attention should be given to the study of the reasons behind the very good results of the country in the provision of e-government services, as measured by the international rankings. By establishing the evolution and current standing of e-government research in Portugal and exploring the ways forward, our conclusions may prove useful to e-government researchers, research managers, and research policy makers. © Copyright 2016 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd
