An evaluation of the IBM 370/XT personal computer is given. This evaluation focuses primarily on the use of the 370/XT for scientific and technical applications and applications development. A measurement of the capabilities of the 370/XT was performed by means of test programs which are presented. Also included is a review of facilities provided by the operating system (VM/PC), along with comments on the IBM 370/XT hardware configuration

An introduction to statistical methods in machine translation

The intention of this article is to provide a concise introduction to the basic mathematical concepts of statistical translation models as they were introduced by Brown et al. (1993) in their groundbreaking work The Mathematics of Statistical Machine Translation: Parameter Estimation. We concentrate on a simplified description of the first two translation models known as IBM Model 1 and 2. It is one major aim of this work to serve as tutoring material for students of computational linguistics, mathematics or computer science and therefore a lot of comments, additional examples and step-by-step explanations are given, augmenting the original formula by Brown et al. (1993). For both discussed models the calculations for a small parallel corpus are described in detail. The intention of this article is to provide a concise introduction to the basic mathematical concepts of statistical translation models as they were introduced by Brown et al. Quantum computer is showing its dramatic potential in nowadays information processing. However, by the rule of quantum mechanics, the output state of a quantum computer could be a general superposed quantum state, which can not be directly readout as the output of a classical computer. In this paper, we construct minimal measurement resources for uniquely determination of NN-qubit pure state. Two adaptive protocols are proposed and the quantum circuits for each protocol are depicted. Additionally, the experiments on IBM 5-qubit quantum computer, as well as the numerical investigations demonstrate their feasibility.Comment: 8 pages+10 figures. All comments welcome

The purpose of this report is to describe POGINOUT, a simultaneous input-output utility program for the IBM 1401 computer. The procedure is given for writing any 1401 program with simultaneous input-output. The description and procedure can be used in writing similar utility programs for 1401\u27s used as peripheral equipment to a larger computer. The report contains comments on procedures not used in POGINOUT but which might be appropriate under slightly different conditions. Familiarity with this program aids in optimum use of the POGO executive system. The normal user will find those sections pertaining to code words and carriage control the most useful
