    Multi-modal Embedding Fusion-based Recommender

    Recommendation systems have lately been popularized globally, with primary use cases in online interaction systems, with significant focus on e-commerce platforms. We have developed a machine learning-based recommendation platform, which can be easily applied to almost any items and/or actions domain. Contrary to existing recommendation systems, our platform supports multiple types of interaction data with multiple modalities of metadata natively. This is achieved through multi-modal fusion of various data representations. We deployed the platform into multiple e-commerce stores of different kinds, e.g. food and beverages, shoes, fashion items, telecom operators. Here, we present our system, its flexibility and performance. We also show benchmark results on open datasets, that significantly outperform state-of-the-art prior work.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figure

    Large Geographical Area Aerial Surveillance Systems Data Network Infrastructure Managed by Artificial Intelligence and Certified Over Blockchain: a Review

    This paper proposes an aerial data network infrastructure for large geographical area surveillance systems. The work presents a review of previous works from the authors, existing technologies in the market and other scientific work, with the goal of creating a data network supported by Autonomous Tethered Aerostat Airships used for sensor fixing, drones deployment base and meshed data network nodes installation. The proposed approach for data network infrastructure supports several independent and heterogeneous services from independent, private and public companies. The presented solution employs Edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems for autonomous infrastructure management. The Edge AI used in the presented solution enables the AI management solution to work without the need of a permanent connection to cloud services and is constantly feed by the locally generated sensor data. These systems interact with other network AI services to accomplish coordinated tasks. Blockchain technology services are deployed to ensure secure and auditable decisions and operations, validated by the different involved ledgers

    Roadmaps to Utopia: Tales of the Smart City

    Notions of the Smart City are pervasive in urban development discourses. Various frameworks for the development of smart cities, often conceptualized as roadmaps, make a number of implicit claims about how smart city projects proceed but the legitimacy of those claims is unclear. This paper begins to address this gap in knowledge. We explore the development of a smart transport application, MotionMap, in the context of a £16M smart city programme taking place in Milton Keynes, UK. We examine how the idealized smart city narrative was locally inflected, and discuss the differences between the narrative and the processes and outcomes observed in Milton Keynes. The research shows that the vision of data-driven efficiency outlined in the roadmaps is not universally compelling, and that different approaches to the sensing and optimization of urban flows have potential for empowering or disempowering different actors. Roadmaps tend to emphasize the importance of delivering quick practical results. However, the benefits observed in Milton Keynes did not come from quick technical fixes but from a smart city narrative that reinforced existing city branding, mobilizing a growing network of actors towards the development of a smart region. Further research is needed to investigate this and other smart city developments, the significance of different smart city narratives, and how power relationships are reinforced and constructed through them

    Resource Orchestration in Digital Servitisation: A Case Study of Integrated Energy Service

    The widespread of digital technologies, such as the Internet of Things, in manufacturing industries has evoked a growing research stream on digital servitisation. Existing studies have formed a preliminary consensus on the conceptualisation of digital servitisation and discussed the business model, process transformation. Yet, the organisational micro foundation contributing to new strategy capabilities remain elusive. This paper aims at exploring the resource orchestration that manufacture undertaking in digital servitsation. Through a case study, the organisation restructuring process of an integrated energy service company is discussed. The research suggest that four categories of orchestration tactics enable digital servitisation path, which are physical resource orchestration tactic, human resource orchestration tactic, organisational structure tactic, ecological relationship orchestration tactic. It describes and exemplifies how manufacture transforms each of these aspects. Two types of strategy are recognised, conservative and aggressive strategy.     One of the most relevant issues in the new Digital Transformation is how telcos could create new 5G ecosystems. The use of new 5G technologies enters the telecommunication market in a very disruptive way. Telcos could be prepared for another technological change since the telco industry lived many transformations in the past. With 5G and their disruptive technologies, the result will be, making telcos enter in a non-telco area. Because of that, they will need to interact with different verticals and new partners. There are many technical kinds of literature covering these new 5G technologies, but few of them, cover how telcos should manage and do business with them. Some studies affirm that The telco companies who do not understand that they must interact with others as part of the new ecosystem will eventually die. However, not all are bad news for telcos, the future is not written. There are new opportunities and considering the logical technological restrictions and the possible and realistic possibilities, there is an open space that will be defined by the decisions that will be taken by the industry. This paper aims to clarify these concepts behind the new business models which are its usages, and its roles in the information system domain. To do that, the paper identifies the terminologies used to describe new business models and reuses the previous literature to elaborate on the research. General usages, roles, and potential of the concept are also outlined. The intention of this dissertation is to be used by non-technical people. Basic concepts are explained in a very simple way to allow readers to have an overview of the technical issues needed to understand the conclusions. How to present technical information, in a non-technical way, represents an extra challenge for the author. Finally, concrete and pragmatic proposals will be offered to telco managers and CEOs, to start working in the direction towards monetization of 5G, helping them with company decisions.Master in NFV and SDN for 5G Networks.
