    Identification of Inability States of Rotating Machinery Subsystems Using Industrial IoT and Convolutional Neural Network – Initial Research

    Rotating parts can be found in almost all operational equipment in the industry and are of great importance for proper operation. However, reliability theory explains that every industrial system can change its state when failure happens. Predictive maintenance as one of the latest maintenance strategy emerged from the Maintenance 4.0 concept. Nowadays, this concept can include Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) devices to connect industrial assets thus enable data collection and analysis that can help make better decisions about maintenance activity. Robust data acquisition system is a prerequisite for any modern predictive maintenance task as it provides necessary data for further analysis and health assessment of the industry asset. Fault diagnosis is an important task in the maintenance of industrial rotating subsystems, considering that early state change diagnosis and fault identification can prevent system failure. Vibration analysis in theory and practice is considered a correct technique for early detection of state changes and failure diagnostics of rotating subsystems. The identified technical state should be considered in a context of the ability and different inability states. Therefore, early different inability states identification is the next step in the rotary machinery diagnostics procedure. Most of the existing techniques for fault diagnosis of rotating subsystems that use vibrations involve the step of extracting features from the raw signal. Considering that the features that describe the behavior of the rotary subsystem can differ significantly depending on the type of equipment, such an approach usually requires an expert in the field of signal processing and rotary subsystems who can define the necessary features. Recently, the emergence of machine deep learning and its application in maintenance promises to provide highly efficient fault diagnostics while simultaneously reducing the need for expert knowledge and human labour. This paper presents authors aim to use self-developed IIoT system built as an IIoT accelerometer as the edge device, web API and database with convolutional neural network as deep learning-based data-driven fault diagnosis to detect and identify different inability states of rotating subsystems. Large dataset for two different rotational speed is collected using IIOT system and multiple convolutional neural network models are trained and tested to examine possibility of using IIOT for inability state prediction

    Coordinated autonomic loops for target identification, load and error-aware Device Management for the IoT

    International audienceWith the expansion of Internet of Things (IoT) that relies on heterogeneous, dynamic, and massively deployed devices, device management (DM) (i.e., remote administration such as firmware update, configuration, troubleshooting and tracking) is required for proper quality of service and user experience, deployment of new functions, bug corrections and security patches distribution. Existing industrial DM platforms and approaches do not suit IoT devices and are already showing their limits with a few static home devices (e.g., routers, TV Decoders). Indeed, undetected buggy firmware deployment and manual target device identification are common issues in existing systems. Besides, these platforms are manually operated by experts (e.g., system administrators) and require extensive knowledge and skills. Such approaches cannot be applied on massive and diverse devices forming the IoT. To tackle these issues, our work in an industrial research context proposes to apply autonomic computing to DM platforms operation and impact tracking. Specifically, our contribution relies on of automated device targeting (i.e., aiming only suitable devices) and impact-aware DM (i.e., error and anomalies detection preceding patch generalization on all suitable devices of a given fleet). Our solution is composed of three coordinated autonomic loops and allows more accurate and faster irregularity diagnosis, vertical scaling along with simpler IoT DM platform administration.     Machine Tool Communication (MTComm) Method and Its Applications in a Cyber-Physical Manufacturing Cloud

    The integration of cyber-physical systems and cloud manufacturing has the potential to revolutionize existing manufacturing systems by enabling better accessibility, agility, and efficiency. To achieve this, it is necessary to establish a communication method of manufacturing services over the Internet to access and manage physical machines from cloud applications. Most of the existing industrial automation protocols utilize Ethernet based Local Area Network (LAN) and are not designed specifically for Internet enabled data transmission. Recently MTConnect has been gaining popularity as a standard for monitoring status of machine tools through RESTful web services and an XML based messaging structure, but it is only designed for data collection and interpretation and lacks remote operation capability. This dissertation presents the design, development, optimization, and applications of a service-oriented Internet-scale communication method named Machine Tool Communication (MTComm) for exchanging manufacturing services in a Cyber-Physical Manufacturing Cloud (CPMC) to enable manufacturing with heterogeneous physically connected machine tools from geographically distributed locations over the Internet. MTComm uses an agent-adapter based architecture and a semantic ontology to provide both remote monitoring and operation capabilities through RESTful services and XML messages. MTComm was successfully used to develop and implement multi-purpose applications in in a CPMC including remote and collaborative manufacturing, active testing-based and edge-based fault diagnosis and maintenance of machine tools, cross-domain interoperability between Internet-of-things (IoT) devices and supply chain robots etc. To improve MTComm’s overall performance, efficiency, and acceptability in cyber manufacturing, the concept of MTComm’s edge-based middleware was introduced and three optimization strategies for data catching, transmission, and operation execution were developed and adopted at the edge. Finally, a hardware prototype of the middleware was implemented on a System-On-Chip based FPGA device to reduce computational and transmission latency. At every stage of its development, MTComm’s performance and feasibility were evaluated with experiments in a CPMC testbed with three different types of manufacturing machine tools. Experimental results demonstrated MTComm’s excellent feasibility for scalable cyber-physical manufacturing and superior performance over other existing approaches

    Power Line Monitoring through Data Integrity Analysis with Q-Learning Based Data Analysis Network

    To monitor and handle big data obtained from electrical, electronic, electro-mechanical, and other equipment linked to the power grid effectively and efficiently, it is important to monitor them continually to gather information on power line integrity. We propose that data transmission analysis and data collection from tools like digital power meters may be used to undertake predictive maintenance on power lines without the need for specialized hardware like power line modems and synthetic data streams. Neural network models such as deep learning may be used for power line integrity analysis systems effectively, safely, and reliably. We adopt Q-learning based data analysis network for analyzing and monitoring power line integrity. The results of experiments performed over 32 km long power line under different scenarios are presented. The proposed framework may be useful for monitoring traditional power lines as well as alternative energy source parks and large users like industries. We discovered that the quantity of data transferred changes based on the problem and the size of the planned data packet. When all phases were absent from all meters, we noted a significant decrease in the amount of data collected from the power line of interest. This implies that there is a power outage during the monitoring. When even one phase is reconnected, we only obtain a portion of the information and a solution to interpret this was necessary. Our Q-network was able to identify and classify simulated 190 entire power outages and 700 single phase outages. The mean square error (MSE) did not exceed 0.10% of the total number of instances, and the MSE of the smart meters for a complete disturbance was only 0.20%, resulting in an average number of conceivable cases of errors and disturbances of 0.12% for the whole operation.publishedVersio

    Internet of things for disaster management: state-of-the-art and prospects

    Disastrous events are cordially involved with the momentum of nature. As such mishaps have been showing off own mastery, situations have gone beyond the control of human resistive mechanisms far ago. Fortunately, several technologies are in service to gain affirmative knowledge and analysis of a disaster's occurrence. Recently, Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm has opened a promising door toward catering of multitude problems related to agriculture, industry, security, and medicine due to its attractive features, such as heterogeneity, interoperability, light-weight, and flexibility. This paper surveys existing approaches to encounter the relevant issues with disasters, such as early warning, notification, data analytics, knowledge aggregation, remote monitoring, real-time analytics, and victim localization. Simultaneous interventions with IoT are also given utmost importance while presenting these facts. A comprehensive discussion on the state-of-the-art scenarios to handle disastrous events is presented. Furthermore, IoT-supported protocols and market-ready deployable products are summarized to address these issues. Finally, this survey highlights open challenges and research trends in IoT-enabled disaster management systems. © 2013 IEEE
