Computations by fly-automata beyond monadic second-order logic
We present logically based methods for constructing XP and FPT graph
algorithms, parametrized by tree-width or clique-width. We will use
fly-automata introduced in a previous article. They make possible to check
properties that are not monadic second-order expressible because their states
may include counters, so that their sets of states may be infinite. We equip
these automata with output functions, so that they can compute values
associated with terms or graphs. Rather than new algorithmic results we present
tools for constructing easily certain dynamic programming algorithms by

A Tighter Bound for the Determinization of Visibly Pushdown Automata
Visibly pushdown automata (VPA), introduced by Alur and Madhusuan in 2004, is
a subclass of pushdown automata whose stack behavior is completely determined
by the input symbol according to a fixed partition of the input alphabet. Since
its introduce, VPAs have been shown to be useful in various context, e.g., as
specification formalism for verification and as automaton model for processing
XML streams. Due to high complexity, however, implementation of formal
verification based on VPA framework is a challenge. In this paper we consider
the problem of implementing VPA-based model checking algorithms. For doing so,
we first present an improvement on upper bound for determinization of VPA.
Next, we propose simple on-the-fly algorithms to check universality and
inclusion problems of this automata class. Then, we implement the proposed
algorithms in a prototype tool. Finally, we conduct experiments on randomly
generated VPAs. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithms are
considerably faster than the standard ones
IMITATOR II: A Tool for Solving the Good Parameters Problem in Timed Automata
We present here Imitator II, a new version of Imitator, a tool implementing
the "inverse method" for parametric timed automata: given a reference valuation
of the parameters, it synthesizes a constraint such that, for any valuation
satisfying this constraint, the system behaves the same as under the reference
valuation in terms of traces, i.e., alternating sequences of locations and
actions. Imitator II also implements the "behavioral cartography algorithm",
allowing us to solve the following good parameters problem: find a set of
valuations within a given bounded parametric domain for which the system
behaves well. We present new features and optimizations of the tool, and give
results of applications to various examples of asynchronous circuits and

Permutation Games for the Weakly Aconjunctive -Calculus
We introduce a natural notion of limit-deterministic parity automata and
present a method that uses such automata to construct satisfiability games for
the weakly aconjunctive fragment of the -calculus. To this end we devise a
method that determinizes limit-deterministic parity automata of size with
priorities through limit-deterministic B\"uchi automata to deterministic
parity automata of size and with
priorities. The construction relies on limit-determinism to avoid the full
complexity of the Safra/Piterman-construction by using partial permutations of
states in place of Safra-Trees. By showing that limit-deterministic parity
automata can be used to recognize unsuccessful branches in pre-tableaux for the
weakly aconjunctive -calculus, we obtain satisfiability games of size
with priorities for weakly aconjunctive
input formulas of size and alternation-depth . A prototypical
implementation that employs a tableau-based global caching algorithm to solve
these games on-the-fly shows promising initial results
Verification of Timed Automata Using Rewrite Rules and Strategies
ELAN is a powerful language and environment for specifying and prototyping
deduction systems in a language based on rewrite rules controlled by
strategies. Timed automata is a class of continuous real-time models of
reactive systems for which efficient model-checking algorithms have been
devised. In this paper, we show that these algorithms can very easily be
prototyped in the ELAN system. This paper argues through this example that
rewriting based systems relying on rules and strategies are a good framework to
prototype, study and test rather efficiently symbolic model-checking
algorithms, i.e. algorithms which involve combination of graph exploration
rules, deduction rules, constraint solving techniques and decision procedures
