A STUDY ON FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE OF JOHNDENVER’S SONG “THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD”
Literature is a creativity of art which has beauty aspect like the diction of the words, the use of rhythm, meter and others. Furthermore, studying literary works can give the readers some advantages like increasing language skills and
developing vocabulary achievement. Therefore, the writer chose literature, especially songs as the object of study.
The present study tried to analyze the figurative language of the song “The Little Engine That Could” by John Denver. The purposes of the study were to describe the kinds of figurative language and the meanings of figurative language
in the song.
This research belonged to descriptive research design. In addition, this study used the objective approach. The object of study was the song “The Little Engine That Could” by John Denver especially in the form of figurative language and meaning of the figurative language.
The research findings showed that John Denver uses three kinds of figurative languages. More specifically, he used five personifications, one hyperbole, and four symbols. He used figurative language in order to attractive the
listeners in order to enjoy listening to his song
AN ANALYSIS OF FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE PRESENTED AT "ST JIMMY" SONG LYRIC
This study concerned with the discussion of English song’s lyric which was sung by Green Day.
This study analyzed two problems (1) What kinds of figurative language are used at “St. Jimmy” song lyric? (2) What are the meanings of those figurative languages? The purpose of the study was to answer the problems proposed.

FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE USED IN TAYLOR SWIFT SONGS
Language is the main means of communication; it consists of words that may be expressed by writing, gestures, or voice. Communicating using language helps humans to convey ideas, thoughts, emotions and feelings to each other. One way to do this is by using songs as a medium. Songs are very varied and one of the characteristics of songs contains beautiful language to make the song interesting. This language is called figurative language. The interesting thing about the use of figurative language in the song itself is that the listener is invited to guess the hidden meaning of some of the figurative language by using their imagination. Therefore, the researcher is interested in analyzing figurative language in songs. In this study, the researcher focused on analyzing various kinds of figurative language and their meanings in three Taylor Swift songs. This research used qualitative research methods. The instrument used in the research using document analysis. In the research findings on three Taylor Swift songs, the author found seven kinds of figurative language, namely personification, symbol, simile, metaphor, hyperbole, irony, and paradox. Cruel summer tells the story of Taylor's love life that happened in the summer but at that time she was also faced with various problems that made her depressed. Lover is described as a song about a sincere relationship between lovers where they are committed to loving each other forever. Daylight depicted a couple who had experienced the pain and damage of a relationship. However, in that pain they tried to face it, forgave and resolved it together for a better future
FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE ANALYSIS IN THREE ALEC BENJAMIN’S SONG LYRIC
A song is part of a beautiful literary work, it uses words that have many meanings implied in them.In a song, there can be a story or a message to be conveyed to the listeners. In addition, we can also become more motivated to do various things if we find a song that suits the conditions we are facing. Song, usually uses figurative language to make their song more beautiful and full of meaning.
The research aimed to identify the type of figurative language used in Three Alec Benjamin Song Lyrics, its dominant type, and the meaning contained within them. The study focused on three research questions: "What figurative language types are used in Three Alec Benjamin Song Lyrics?", "What is the most dominant type of figurative language found in Three Alec Benjamin Song Lyric?", and "What is the meaning of the figurative language used in Three Alec Benjamin Song Lyrics?"
The research employs a qualitative data analysis method to analyze Three Alec Benjamin Song Lyrics, identifying figurative language types within the lyrics. The data was grouped into 12 types, verified by an advisor, and then explained by the researcher, highlighting the meaning within the lyrics.
The result of this research show that in Three songs by Alec Benjamin contain eight categories of figurative language, with a total of 43 lyrics that have been explained. The following types of figures of speech are: Simile, Hyperbole, Metaphor, Personification, Irony, Paradox, Repetition, and Symbolic
A STUDY ON THE FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE FOUNDIN UNDERGROUND MUSIC USED INTHE LYRIC OF SLIPKNOT
Language is an integral aspect of human existence. By using language, human being can interact and communicate each other in daily life, and also express his feelings, emotions and imagination. Like in a poem, human being expressed his feelings, emotions and also his imagination by using the beautiful language. It might be in the form of figurative language.
This study was conducted to know the kinds of figurative language and meanings that are used in Slipknot’s song lyrics “The Virus of Life”.
This study used a descriptive qualitative method, because the data were collected in the form of words or pictures than numbers. Furthermore, this study used the objective approach, because it described the song lyric as an individual entity without studying the author’s life. The object of the study is Slipknot’s song lyrics “The Virus of Live” that is focused on the kinds of figurative language and meanings of figurative language.
The result of this study showed that “The Virus of Life” consisted of repetition as stressing the importance of words and ideas in this song lyric, hyperbole as an illustration of his feeling of love to the girl and to create a great dramatic effect, personification has meaning of controlling to do something, symbol “virus’ has meaning a girl and “the crisis, the knife has meaning his heart

Language is a tool in communication. The novelists in the world have
their own style to communicate with the reader through the using of language in
their works. In literary work, it can be called as a figurative language. It is used to
figure something through word, phrase, clause, and sentence. The using of
figurative language in prose can evoke the reader‟s emotion and knowledge.
In this research, the writer conducts two questions. They consist of what
kinds of figurative language are used in the novel “A Love for Life” and what is
figurative language that mostly used in the novel “A Love for Life”. Every
question will be presented in chapter IV. Therefore, the writer discusses them and
draws a conclusion.
In this thesis, the writer describes some theories and definition of novel,
genres of novel, figurative language, and kinds of figurative language. They have
been obtained by scientist of language. For conducting this research, the writer
uses qualitative research by using content analysis. The writer analyzes kinds of
figurative language that are used in novel. Then, they are interpreted based on
kinds of figurative language. Finally, they are classified to find out what is
figurative language that mostly used in novel.
After processing the data that have been obtained from the novel, the
writer found out that novel “A Love for Life” has many kinds of figurative
language such as metaphor, hyperbole, simile, personification, metonymy, litotes,
asyndeton, exclamation, enumeration, inversion, and repetition. The using of
Repetition is more dominant than the other. The using asyndeton and inversion
are the least of all. The conclusions involve what the discussion in previous
chapter.
This thesis is expected to improve the reader‟s ability in understanding of
figurative language. The reader can find out the theory of novel, figurative
language, and kinds of figurative language by reading this thesis
The Analysis of Figurative Language Used in the Lyric of Firework by Katy Perry (a Study of Semantic)

The aims of this research are to find out the figurative languages used in the lyric of firework and to analyze the contextual meaning of figurative language used in that song. It is expected the result of this study will be useful for the reader especially in knowing what figurative language is and what kinds of figurative language are. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The data of song is got from kapanlagi.com entitle firework. The result found that there are some kinds of figurative language used in Katy perry\u27s song entitle firework, such as simile, metaphor, hyperbole, affiliation, symbolic, paradox, and personification. The contextual meaning of each figurative language is also stated clearly. AN ANALYSIS OF THE FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE USED ON CREED ALBUM “WEATHERED”
Language has an important role in the literary works. Literary works gives information concerning human expression, realities and problems. Literary works play a role in the revealing the truth through their language and symbols behind the works. A lyrical poetry is representation of music, which can convey ideas and emotion to the listeners. In a song there are many expressions that the composer wants to show to the listener. The writer of this thesis analyzes the figurative expression that exists in Creed’s songs. He chooses one of the Creed’s album that is released in 2001 under titled “weathered”. Two major purposes considered being the main problem in analyzing Creed’s song: (1) what kinds of figurative language are found in Creed lyric? (2) What are the detail meanings of figurative language that are found in Creed lyric?. The approach that the writer uses in this thesis is objective approach because the analysis is related to the literary works itself by analyzing the lyric that uses figurative language. The method in this study is descriptive qualitative research method. This method started by collecting research literature to provide the research data. Next, the data are carefully examined in order to analyze the lyrics that are using figurative language. The data in this study are collected from cassettes, Internet and magazines. The population in this study is eleven songs in “weathered” album, and the writer take six songs as sample. The songs are: Bullets, My sacrifice, Stand here with me, Weathered, Hide and Don’t stop dancing. The result of this study shows that there are seven figurative languages used by Creed in this album, such as hyperbole, repetition, irony, personification, litotes, metaphor and metonymy. The detail meanings that are found in figurative language cannot be understood literally. It needs deeper understanding from the listener
