Transforming sequences using threaded morphisms.
Sequences are very useful structures in programming languages. Functional programming languages allow the convenient definition of transformations between sequence algebras and other types of data algebra. Sequence homomorphisms are an important class of such transformations. However, not all desired transformations can be expressed as homomorphisms. This paper describes a class of transformation which is a generalisation of homomorphisms: sequence morphisms with threads. This class is shown to contain a number of interesting sub-classes of transformation. The morphisms are described using a simple functional programming language and are applied to the design and implementation of a simple object-oriented programming language feature

A Survey of Languages for Specifying Dynamics: A Knowledge Engineering Perspective
A number of formal specification languages for knowledge-based systems has been developed. Characteristics for knowledge-based systems are a complex knowledge base and an inference engine which uses this knowledge to solve a given problem. Specification languages for knowledge-based systems have to cover both aspects. They have to provide the means to specify a complex and large amount of knowledge and they have to provide the means to specify the dynamic reasoning behavior of a knowledge-based system. We focus on the second aspect. For this purpose, we survey existing approaches for specifying dynamic behavior in related areas of research. In fact, we have taken approaches for the specification of information systems (Language for Conceptual Modeling and TROLL), approaches for the specification of database updates and logic programming (Transaction Logic and Dynamic Database Logic) and the generic specification framework of abstract state machine
State-of-the-art on evolution and reactivity
This report starts by, in Chapter 1, outlining aspects of querying and updating resources on
the Web and on the Semantic Web, including the development of query and update languages
to be carried out within the Rewerse project.
From this outline, it becomes clear that several existing research areas and topics are of
interest for this work in Rewerse. In the remainder of this report we further present state of
the art surveys in a selection of such areas and topics. More precisely: in Chapter 2 we give
an overview of logics for reasoning about state change and updates; Chapter 3 is devoted to briefly describing existing update languages for the Web, and also for updating logic programs;
in Chapter 4 event-condition-action rules, both in the context of active database systems and
in the context of semistructured data, are surveyed; in Chapter 5 we give an overview of some relevant rule-based agents frameworks
On Modelling and Analysis of Dynamic Reconfiguration of Dependable Real-Time Systems
This paper motivates the need for a formalism for the modelling and analysis
of dynamic reconfiguration of dependable real-time systems. We present
requirements that the formalism must meet, and use these to evaluate well
established formalisms and two process algebras that we have been developing,
namely, Webpi and CCSdp. A simple case study is developed to illustrate the
modelling power of these two formalisms. The paper shows how Webpi and CCSdp
represent a significant step forward in modelling adaptive and dependable
real-time systems.Comment: Presented and published at DEPEND 201
Modal logics for reasoning about object-based component composition
Component-oriented development of software supports the adaptability and maintainability of large systems, in particular if requirements change over time and parts of a system have to be modified or replaced. The software architecture in such systems can be described by components
and their composition. In order to describe larger architectures, the composition concept becomes crucial. We will present a formal framework for component composition for object-based software development. The deployment of modal logics for defining components and component composition will allow us to reason about and prove properties of components and compositions
