Motion estimation with chessboard pattern prediction strategy

    Get PDF
Due to high correlations among the adjacent blocks, several algorithms utilize movement information of spatially and temporally correlated neighboring blocks to adapt their search patterns to that information. In this paper, this information is used to define a dynamic search pattern. Each frame is divided into two sets, black and white blocks, like a chessboard pattern and a different search pattern, is defined for each set. The advantage of this definition is that the number of spatially neighboring blocks is increased for each current block and it leads to a better prediction for each block. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is closer to the Full-Search algorithm in terms of quality metrics such as PSNR than the other state-of-the-art algorithms while at the same time the average number of search points is less.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

=========================================================================== Due to the increasing quality and resolution of videocontent, especially 3D video, the computational complexity forits processing also significantly increases. One of the popularformat, HEVC has extensions called Multiview HEVC (MV-HEVC) and 3D-HEVC with high amounts of data and highresolution that resulting in increased computational complexity. This study aims to reduce the computational complexity of MVHEVC videos by implementing mode decision such as ECU,CFM, ESD, and deblocking filterswhich are tested on Linuxbased PC platforms and the Xilinx All Programmable SoCplatform. From the experimental results obtained the reductionin computational complexity can be seen from the comparisonofencoding time, the Xilinx All Programmable SoC platform isable to obtain encoding times that are faster than Linux-basedPCs. For the quality of the video produced between the two theplatform is not significant from the bitrate and PSNR values

Fast motion estimation for HEVC video coding

International audience—In this paper, a fast configuration for Motion Estimation (ME) is described in order to reduce the computational time of the new High Efficient Video Coding (HEVC). This configuration uses the Coded Block Flag (CBF) Fast Method (CFM), the Early Coding Unit (CU) termination (ECU) and the Early Skip Detection (ESD) modes. The Diamond Pattern is used as a search algorithm for ME in the encoding process. Compared to the latest original reference software test model (HM) 16.2 of the HEVC, experimental results had showed that the complexity is reduced, in average, by 56.75% with a small bit-rate and PSNR degradation
