Secure Layered Transmission in Multicast Systems with Wireless Information and Power Transfer
This paper considers downlink multicast transmit beamforming for secure
layered transmission systems with wireless simultaneous information and power
transfer. We study the power allocation algorithm design for minimizing the
total transmit power in the presence of passive eavesdroppers and energy
harvesting receivers. The algorithm design is formulated as a non-convex
optimization problem. Our problem formulation promotes the dual use of energy
signals in providing secure communication and facilitating efficient energy
transfer. Besides, we take into account a minimum required power for energy
harvesting at the idle receivers and heterogeneous quality of service (QoS)
requirements for the multicast video receivers. In light of the intractability
of the problem, we reformulate the considered problem by replacing a non-convex
probabilistic constraint with a convex deterministic constraint. Then, a
semidefinite programming relaxation (SDR) approach is adopted to obtain an
upper solution for the reformulated problem. Subsequently, sufficient
conditions for the global optimal solution of the reformulated problem are
revealed. Furthermore, we propose two suboptimal power allocation schemes based
on the upper bound solution. Simulation results demonstrate the excellent
performance and significant transmit power savings achieved by the proposed
schemes compared to isotropic energy signal generation.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, accepted for presentation at the IEEE

Achievable Secrecy Rates of an Energy Harvesting Device with a Finite Battery
In this paper, we investigate the achievable secrecy rates in an Energy Harvesting communication system composed of one transmitter and multiple receivers. In particular, because of the energy constraints and the channel conditions, it is important to understand when a device should transmit or not and how much power should be used. We introduce the Optimal Secrecy Policy in several scenarios. We show that, if the receivers demand high secrecy rates, then it is not always possible to satisfy all their requests. Thus, we introduce a scheme that chooses which receivers should be discarded. Also, we study how the system is influenced by the Channel State Information and, in particular, how the knowledge of the eavesdropper's channel changes the achievable rates
Recent Advances in Joint Wireless Energy and Information Transfer
In this paper, we provide an overview of the recent advances in
microwave-enabled wireless energy transfer (WET) technologies and their
applications in wireless communications. Specifically, we divide our
discussions into three parts. First, we introduce the state-of-the-art WET
technologies and the signal processing techniques to maximize the energy
transfer efficiency. Then, we discuss an interesting paradigm named
simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT), where energy and
information are jointly transmitted using the same radio waveform. At last, we
review the recent progress in wireless powered communication networks (WPCN),
where wireless devices communicate using the power harvested by means of WET.
Extensions and future directions are also discussed in each of these areas.Comment: Conference submission accepted by ITW 201
