WSN based intelligent cold chain management
This paper presents a cold chain monitoring system which is implemented by using ubiquitous computing technologies, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) & Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). In this paper, we discuss how cold supply chain works and how we can monitor and control cold supply chain by using wireless tracking and sensing technologies. We propose a prototype design which will provide a well controlled and transparent cold chain system, which could help the users to manage their products’ environmental data in real time during the life cycle. Moreover, we highlight how the availability of product trace data in combination with historical condition-monitoring data can facilitate decision-making processes enhancing supply chain’s performance. Finally we discuss the integration works of these two technologies together in the cold supply chain management system. Hardware and software platform of WSN used in this system are also described in this paper
Achieving supply chain integration using RFID technology: The case of emerging intelligent B-to-B e-commerce processes in a living laboratory
Purpose: Despite the high operational and strategic potentials of RFID technology, very little studies have been conducted about its role as enabler of supply chain integration to achieve high-level operational efficiency. Therefore, this study is an initial effort towards bridging the existing knowledge gap in the literature. Design/methodology: This exploratory research was conducted in one retail supply chain. A multi-method approach combining a longitudinal real-life case study and a methodology integrating several steps, including a “Living Laboratory” strategy was used and involved all members of a product line to analyze in terms of their contributing activities and their interface with other supply chain members, the aim being to explore the impact of RFID technology on inter- and intra-organizational processes and information systems. Findings: Our results provide support to the role of RFID as enabler of better integration of timeliness and accuracy data flows into information systems, business process optimization through automation, better system-to-system communication and better inter- and-intra-organizational business process integration. Furthermore, they also validate the unique characteristics of RFID technology such as enabler of realtime multiple tags items data collection and exchange within the supply chain and the read-and-write capability that may help, for example, to reuse some RFID tags within the supply chain and therefore reduce the cost related to the purchase of the said RFID tags. Finally, the study also reveals the importance of business process renovation and complementary investments during the adoption of RFID technology in order to achieve high level of business value from the technology

Enhancement of Transparency and Adaptability by Online Tracking of Enterprise Processes
Enterprises are seeking novel approaches to reduce cost in complying with regulations and requirements from original equipment manufacturers. Consequently, enterprises are investing in manufacturing execution system (MES) solutions for realizing these requirements. However, most of the MES solutions do not support processing of real-time process data acquired from shop floor for online monitoring and control of enterprise processes. Further, monitoring of enterprise processes can be classified into online tracking and passive tracing. In the contribution, a framework is envisaged for online tracking of enterprise processes based on MES concepts. This framework has been validated in an industrial scenario
Role of RFID in Machinal Process of Manufacturing: A Critical Review of Contemporary Literature
RFID (radio frequency identification) is a modern supply chain management technology that is increasingly being used. RFID technology's potential to identify, detect, and monitor data across the supply chain significantly influences logistics and supply chain operations. The system may provide suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers with accurate, real-time inventory information. This exact stock data would result in lower labor costs, automated company practices, and improved supply chain efficiency. If executed correctly, it may minimize the ordering wait duration and Inventory management costs, improve inventory data quality, help avoid stockouts, and enhance the frequency of stock movements. RFID technology has prompted much debate and supposition over its possible repercussions. RFID is a new technical breakthrough that enables supply chain partners to cooperate closely by providing real-time informational transparency. Mean and T-test is applied in the study to find the result of the study with 193 respondents
Information Technology and Human Factors to Enhance Design and Constructability Review Processes in Construction
abstract: Emerging information and communication technology (ICT) has had an enormous effect on the building architecture, engineering, construction and operation (AECO) fields in recent decades. The effects have resonated in several disciplines, such as project information flow, design representation and communication, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) approaches. However, these effects can potentially impact communication and coordination of the virtual design contents in both design and construction phases. Therefore, and with the great potential for emerging technologies in construction projects, it is essential to understand how these technologies influence virtual design information within the organizations as well as individuals’ behaviors. This research focusses on understanding current emerging technologies and its impacts on projects virtual design information and communication among projects stakeholders within the AECO organizations.Dissertation/ThesisDoctoral Dissertation Civil and Environmental Engineering 201
Enhancing the customer relationship management in public libraries: findings from three developing countries
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the possibilities of implementing the customer
relationship management (CRM) concept and smart technologies in public libraries in developing countries.
The goal was to explore the level of librarians’ awareness about CRM concept and their willingness to accept
the CRM concept in libraries. Also, patrons’ satisfaction with the quality of services and relationships in
public libraries is explored.
Design/methodology/approach – The authors obtained data for this research through two online surveys.
The first survey measures librarians’ level of awareness about CRM concept and their perception about CRM
and smart technologies concept in public libraries in three developing countries: Serbia, Montenegro and
Bosnia and Herzegovina. The second survey measures patrons’ satisfaction with services and relationship in
public libraries in these three countries.
Findings – The research results revealed that most surveyed librarians are familiar with the CRM concept.
However, libraries in these three developing countries barely use CRM or smart technologies to improve the
relationship with stakeholders. Also, most patrons are satisfied with relationships and services. The analysis
of data indicates no significant difference in the satisfaction level among patrons between these three
developing countries.
Research limitations/implications – Not all libraries participated in this research. Therefore, the sample
is not distributed evenly across different types of libraries or user groups. Future research should include
different types of libraries.
Practical implications – The results can be used by public libraries in developing countries to improve the
relationship with stakeholders harnessing CRM concept and smart technologies.
Social implications – The use of CRM in combination with the smart technologies can help leverage the
quality of the relationship between public libraries and stakeholders which in turn would secure their support
and loyalty in the future.
Originality/value – The integration of CRM concept as a component of library business automation process
is an idea that has not been discussed widely in the library community and could initiate a positive trend in
public libraries in developing countrie
