Entity Identification Problem in Big and Open Data

Big and Open Data provide great opportunities to businesses to enhance their competitive advantages if utilized properly. However, during past few years’ research in Big and Open Data process, we have encountered big challenge in entity identification reconciliation, when trying to establish accurate relationships between entities from different data sources. In this paper, we present our innovative Intelligent Reconciliation Platform and Virtual Graphs solution that addresses this issue. With this solution, we are able to efficiently extract Big and Open Data from heterogeneous source, and integrate them into a common analysable format. Further enhanced with the Virtual Graphs technology, entity identification reconciliation is processed dynamically to produce more accurate result at system runtime. Moreover, we believe that our technology can be applied to a wide diversity of entity identification problems in several domains, e.g., e- Health, cultural heritage, and company identities in financial world.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación TIN2013-46928-C3-3-

Towards an Intelligent Workflow Designer based on the Reuse of Workflow Patterns

In order to perform process-aware information systems we need sophisticated methods and concepts for designing and modeling processes. Recently, research on workflow patterns has emerged in order to increase the reuse of recurring workflow structures. However, current workflow modeling tools do not provide functionalities that enable users to define, query, and reuse workflow patterns properly. In this paper we gather a suite for both process modeling and normalization based on workflow patterns reuse. This suite must be used in the extension of some workflow design tool. The suite comprises components for the design of processes from both legacy systems and process modeling

Pro-active Meeting Assistants: Attention Please!

This paper gives an overview of pro-active meeting assistants, what they are and when they can be useful. We explain how to develop such assistants with respect to requirement definitions and elaborate on a set of Wizard of Oz experiments, aiming to find out in which form a meeting assistant should operate to be accepted by participants and whether the meeting effectiveness and efficiency can be improved by an assistant at all. 2007-8 was a very busy year for IRIS. It was a bumper year for visiting Profs with Prof Michael Myers visiting from New Zealand, Prof Brian Fitzgerald visiting from University of Limerick, Ireland, Prof. Uzay Kaymak visiting from Erasmus University Netherlands and Prof Steve Sawyer visiting from Pennsylvania State University, USA. Their visits enriched our doctoral school, seminar programme workshops and our research. We were very lucky to have such a distinguished line up of visiting professors and we offer them hearty thanks and hope to keep ongoing research links with them
