    Discrete-time sliding mode control of high precision linear drive using frictional model

    The paper deals with high precision motion control of linear drive system. The accuracy and behavior of the linear drive system are highly affected by the non-linear frictional component compromising of stiction, viscous and stribeck effect present in the system especially in the vicinity of zero velocity. In order to achieve the high accuracy and motion it is mandatory to drive our system with low velocity resulting in many non linear phenomena like tracking error, limit cycles and undesired stick-slip motion etc. This paper discuss the design and implementation of discrete time sliding mode control along with the implementation of dynamic frictional model in order to estimate and compensate the disturbance arising due to frictional component. Experimental results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness and achievable control performance of the proposed scheme

    Scaled bilateral teleoperation using discrete-time sliding mode controller

    In this paper, the design of a discrete-time slidingmode controller based on Lyapunov theory is presented along with a robust disturbance observer and is applied to a piezostage for high-precision motion. A linear model of a piezostage was used with nominal parameters to compensate the disturbance acting on the system in order to achieve nanometer accuracy. The effectiveness of the controller and disturbance observer is validated in terms of closed-loop position performance for nanometer references. The control structure has been applied to a scaled bilateral structure for the custom-built telemicromanipulation setup. A piezoresistive atomic force microscope cantilever with a built-in Wheatstone bridge is utilized to achieve the nanonewtonlevel interaction forces between the piezoresistive probe tip and the environment. Experimental results are provided for the nanonewton-range force sensing, and good agreement between the experimental data and the theoretical estimates has been demonstrated.     Sliding-mode neuro-controller for uncertain systems

    In this paper, a method that allows for the merger of the good features of sliding-mode control and neural network (NN) design is presented. Design is performed by applying an NN to minimize the cost function that is selected to depend on the distance from the sliding-mode manifold, thus providing that the NN controller enforces sliding-mode motion in a closed-loop system. It has been proven that the selected cost function has no local minima in controller parameter space, so under certain conditions, selection of the NN weights guarantees that the global minimum is reached, and then the sliding-mode conditions are satisfied; thus, closed-loop motion is robust against parameter changes and disturbances. For controller design, the system states and the nominal value of the control input matrix are used. The design for both multiple-input-multiple-output and single-input-single-output systems is discussed. Due to the structure of the (M)ADALINE network used in control calculation, the proposed algorithm can also be interpreted as a sliding-mode-based control parameter adaptation scheme. Furthermore, it explains the analysis and synthesis techniques of Disturbance Observer-based robust control for linear and nonlinear systems by using a unified framework.     A novel adaptive PD-type iterative learning control of the PMSM servo system with the friction uncertainty in low speeds

    High precision demands in a large number of emerging robotic applications strengthened the role of the modern control laws in the position control of the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) servo system. This paper proposes a learning-based adaptive control approach to improve the PMSM position tracking in the presence of the friction uncertainty. In contrast to most of the reported works considering the servos operating at high speeds, this paper focuses on low speeds in which the friction stemmed deteriorations become more obvious. In this paper firstly, a servo model involving the Stribeck friction dynamics is formulated, and the unknown friction parameters are identified by a genetic algorithm from the offline data. Then, a feedforward controller is designed to inject the friction information into the loop and eliminate it before causing performance degradations. Since the friction is a kind of disturbance and leads to uncertainties having time-varying characters, an Adaptive Proportional Derivative (APD) type Iterative Learning Controller (ILC) named as the APD-ILC is designed to mitigate the friction effects. Finally, the proposed control approach is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment and it is compared with the conventional Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller, Proportional ILC (P-ILC), and Proportional Derivative ILC (PD-ILC) algorithms. The results confirm that the proposed APD-ILC significantly lessens the effects of the friction and thus noticeably improves the control performance in the low speeds of the PMSM

    In this paper control systems design approach, based on siding mode methods, that allows maintain some functional relation – like bilateral or multilateral systems, establishment of virtual relation among mobile robots or control of haptic systems - is presented. It is shown that all basic motion control problems - trajectory tracking, force control, hybrid position/force control scheme and the impedance control for the interacting systems- can be treated in the same way while avoiding the structural change of the controller and guarantying stable behavior of the system In order to show applicability of the proposed techniques simulation and experimental results for high precision systems in microsystems assembly tasks are presented.
