    Regression modeling for digital test of ΣΔ modulators

    The cost of Analogue and Mixed-Signal circuit testing is an important bottleneck in the industry, due to timeconsuming verification of specifications that require state-ofthe- art Automatic Test Equipment. In this paper, we apply the concept of Alternate Test to achieve digital testing of converters. By training an ensemble of regression models that maps simple digital defect-oriented signatures onto Signal to Noise and Distortion Ratio (SNDR), an average error of 1:7% is achieved.     Absence of halfmetallicity in defect-free Cr, Mn-delta-doped Digital Magnetic Heterostructures

    We present results of a combined density functional and many-body calculations for the electronic and magnetic properties of the defect-free digital ferromagnetic heterostructures obtained by doping GaAs with Cr and Mn. While local density approximation/(+U) predicts half-metallicity in these defect-free delta-doped heterostructures, we demonstrate that local many-body correlations captured by Dynamical Mean Field Theory induce within the minority spin channel non-quasiparticle states just above EFE_F. As a consequence of the existence of these many-body states the half-metallic gap is closed and the carriers spin polarization is significantly reduced. Below the Fermi level the minority spin highest valence states are found to localize more on the GaAs layers being independent of the type of electronic correlations considered. Thus, our results confirm the confinement of carriers in these delta-doped heterostructures, having a spin-polarization that follow a different temperature dependence than magnetization. We suggest that polarized hot-electron photoluminescence experiments might bring evidence for the existence of many-body states within the minority spin channel and their finite temperature behavior.Comment: 10 pages 8 figures, submitted to PR

    Optimal combinations of imperfect objects

    We address the question of how to make best use of imperfect objects, such as defective analog and digital components. We show that perfect, or near-perfect, devices can be constructed by taking combinations of such defects. Any remaining objects can be recycled efficiently.     Validation of a wide plate finite element model using digital image correlation

    To investigate the influence of global plastic deformations on girth weld defect tolerance in pipelines, a parametric finite element model has been developed. This paper provides an experimental validation of the model. It describes the test setup and instrumentation used for the evaluation of plastic strain fields around a notch in a tension loaded non-welded X65 mini wide plate. LVDT measurements and digital image correlation (DIC) results are compared to each other and to the results of finite element simulations. Whereas some deviation is observed owing to unavoidable experimental uncertainties and limitations of finite element modelling, the overall correspondence is more than satisfying

    G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) regulate many animal behaviors. GPCR signaling is mediated by agonist-promoted interactions of GPCRs with heterotrimeric G proteins, GPCR kinases (GRKs), and arrestins. To further elucidate the role of GRKs in regulating GPCR-mediated behaviors, we utilized the genetic model system Caenorhabditis elegans Our studies demonstrate that grk-2 loss-of-function strains are egg laying-defective and contain low levels of serotonin (5-HT) and high levels of the 5-HT metabolite 5-hydroxyindole acetic acid (5-HIAA). The egg laying defect could be rescued by the expression of wild type but not by catalytically inactive grk-2 or by the selective expression of grk-2 in hermaphrodite-specific neurons. The addition of 5-HT or inhibition of 5-HT metabolism also rescued the egg laying defect. Furthermore, we demonstrate that AMX-2 is the primary monoamine oxidase that metabolizes 5-HT in C. elegans, and we also found that grk-2 loss-of-function strains have abnormally high levels of AMX-2 compared with wild-type nematodes. Interestingly, GRK-2 was also found to interact with and promote the phosphorylation of AMX-2. Additional studies reveal that 5-HIAA functions to inhibit egg laying in a manner dependent on the 5-HT receptor SER-1 and the G protein GOA-1. These results demonstrate that GRK-2 modulates 5-HT metabolism by regulating AMX-2 function and that 5-HIAA may function in the SER-1 signaling pathway

    Evaluation of the esthetic properties of developmental defects of enamel: a spectrophotometric clinical study

    Objectives. Detailed clinical quantification of optical properties of developmental defect of enamel is possible with spectropho- tometric evaluation. Developmental defects of enamel (DDE) are daily encountered in clinical practice. DDE are an alteration in quality and quantity of the enamel, caused by disruption and/or damage to the enamel organ during amelogenesis. Methods. Several clinical indices have been developed to categorize enamel defects based on their nature, appearance, microscopic features, or cause. A sample of 39 permanent teeth presenting DDE on labial surface was examined using the DDE Modified Index and SpectroShade evaluation. The spectrophotometric approach quantifies L∗ (luminosity), a∗ (quantity of green-red), and b∗ (quantity of blue- yellow) of different DDE. Conclusions. SpectroShade evaluation of the optical properties of the enamel defect enhances clinical understanding of severity and extent of the defect and characterizes the enamel alteration in terms of color discrepancy and surface characterization

    According to the 2005 International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors, the integration of emerging nondigital CMOS technologies will require radically different test methods, posing a major challenge for designers and test engineers. One such technology is microelectronic fluidic (MEF) arrays, which have rapidly gained importance in many biological, pharmaceutical, and industrial applications. The advantages of these systems, such as operation speed, use of very small amounts of liquid, on-board droplet detection, signal conditioning, and vast digital signal processing, make them very promising. However, testable design of these devices in a mass-production environment is still in its infancy, hampering their low-cost introduction to the market.
