This study carried out a two-semester “Three Entries” course ideological and political experiment in the teaching of English majors in colleges and universities. The experiment found that the 58 students in the experimental group who integrated socialist ideals and beliefs into the teaching of professional courses, their life pursuits, postgraduate entrance examination plans, career ideals, and learning enthusiasm have all improved significantly, and the average score of professional course examinations has also increased by 15%; while the 60 control group students who have not carried out ideological and political integration in the course have no significant changes in the above test indicators. This experiment shows that the development of ideological and political courses in colleges and universities can effectively improve students’ learning motivation and academic performance, and promote postgraduate entrance examinations and career development, providing case experience and reference for the reform of ideological and political courses in colleges and universities

In order to change the problems of low teaching efficiency and slow development of students' writing ability in the course of College English Writing in China, this paper puts forward a teaching model of "mobile micro-writing + automatic correction + English WeChat", and conducted a 32-class-hour instructional reform experiment in 16 weeks to two classes of sophomores majoring in English. The results show that more than 90% of the students in the experimental class support the teaching model, and their interest in English writing, self-awareness of writing and English writing ability have been significantly improved, especially their average score of English writing has increased by 25.51%. Furthermore, they have significant advantages over the control class in writing time, word number, composition score, writing length, vocabulary use, sentence length, and so on. In the meantime, this study analyzes the existing problems of the intelligent correction system, which provides a reference for the non-English speaking countries' English writing teaching.  Article visualizations

Flipped Classroom Teaching model has attracted much attention in China’s education system, because it reversed the traditional teaching process and innovated a new teaching structure. This study focused on Flipped Classroom English teaching based on Wechat. First it constructed a flipped classroom teaching model based on WeChat and showed three procedures including before-the-class, during-the-class and after-the-class. It has also revealed three advantages which are focusing English core competences, creating a U-learning environment and sharing digital opportunities. At last suggestions for further study were given

Purpose–The purpose of this paper is to compare the use of WeChat in China vs. Facebook/ Youtube/ Blog/ Instagram in the UK in higher education practice, based on a case study in art and design subjects between a Chinese and a British university(Ningbo University and University of Huddersfield). Methodology –A combination of literature reviews, action research, peer observation and semi-structured interviews. The research consists of two parts: one was conducted in the project An Action Research of Blended Learning Mode Based on WeChat in China, funded by the Department of Education of Zhejiang Province, and the other part results from the Visiting Scholar Programme in the UK funded by K.C. Wong Education Foundation, Hong Kong. Findings – The findings represent similarities and differences between the Ningbo University and the University of Huddersfield relating to the use of social media and the strategy applying instructional technology in art and design subjects. It mainly indicates the potentially useful, pros and cons of social media in higher education practice, and presents strategies and innovation practices of adopting social media in creative arts and design subjects, including instant dissemination of ideas and processes, dynamic atmosphere of classrooms and studios, assessment and feedback, and students’ portfolios. Originality/value – The paper provides a cross-cultural perspective on sharing the knowledge and good practice of developing or enhancing the use of co-created social resources, strategies and technologies to meet the needs of the future all over the worl

The thesis examined the phenomenon of micro-entrepreneurship, social selling and relationship management on WeChat. I used autoethnography as my research methodology, and the findings contribute to academic area on social selling, micro-entrepreneurship, social marketing, relationship management, and strategic communication. This paper also explored how WeChat users conduct their management strategies and relationship marketing in the common Chinese culture background. Findings revealed that WeChat is an ideal social selling and marketing approach for Chinese individual sellers to accomplish their business goal

The Impact of Using Social Media Platfrom WeChat for Formative Feedback of Teaching and Learning on Student Satisfaction

This quantitative study utilized a quasi-experimental design and SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) as an analysis tool to measure the correlation between independent variables and dependent variables in SETs (student evaluations of teaching) in experimental and control groups. Social learning theory is a foundational theory for building the conceptual framework of this study. Two other theories—motivation theory and self-efficacy—are subfoundational theories to support the conceptual framework. The study applies social learning theory to motivate and enhance students’ self-efficacy. It analyzed the correlation between using WeChat for formative feedback and students’ satisfaction with teaching, as well as with response rates. It also analyzed the correlation in four pairs of factors: students’ gender and students’ satisfaction with teaching; students’ parental educational level and students’ satisfaction with teaching; students’ satisfaction and students’ Java grade; as well as student gender and students’ Java grade. The findings showed that using WeChat for formative feedback can significantly increase students’ satisfaction with teaching. Females’ satisfaction with teaching was lower than males’ satisfaction but females’ satisfaction was not statistically significantly lower than males after using formative feedback (posttest). Parental educational level did not correlate to students’ satisfaction with teaching. There was no correlation between student satisfaction and their Java grade. Students’ gender did not have a statistically significant impact on their Java grade, but the females’ average of grades was higher than males and the females’ grades were concentrated in the middle, while males’ grades were distributed in the highest and lowest points. Furthermore, parental educational level did not correlate to students’ satisfaction with teaching

Smart cities air pollution monitoring system - Developing a potential data collecting platform based on Raspberry Pi

    Get PDF
    >Magister Scientiae - MScAir pollution is becoming a challenging issue in our daily lives due to advanced industrialization. This thesis presents a solution to collection and dissemination of pollution data. Most of the devices that monitor air quality are costly and have limited features. The aim of this study is to revisit the issue of pollution in cities with the aim of providing a cheaper and scalable solution to the challenge of pollution data collection and dissemination. The solution proposed in this paper uses Raspberry Pi and Arduino micro-controller boards as the foundation, combined with specific sensors to facilitate the collection and transfer of pollution data reliably and effectively. While most traditional air pollution monitoring equipment and similar projects use memory cards as a medium for data storage, the system proposed in this research is built around a new network selection model that transfers data to the server by using either Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GSM, or the LoRa protocol. The connectivity protocol is selected automatically and opportunistically by the network selection algorithm defined in the micro-controller board. The final data will be presented to the user through a mobile application and website interface effectively and intuitively after being processed in the server. This data transfer system can effectively reduce the cost and input of human resources. It is a viable solution. For other environmental research, this system can provide an air quality data support for analysis and reference. Modularity and cost-effectiveness are fully considered when designing the system. It is a viable solution. We can generalize the system by slightly changing the data transmission modules. In other case, it can be used as a platform for similar data transmission and offer help for other research directions
