The Impact of Using Social Media Platfrom WeChat for Formative Feedback of Teaching and Learning on Student Satisfaction
This quantitative study utilized a quasi-experimental design and SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) as an analysis tool to measure the correlation between independent variables and dependent variables in SETs (student evaluations of teaching) in experimental and control groups. Social learning theory is a foundational theory for building the conceptual framework of this study. Two other theories—motivation theory and self-efficacy—are subfoundational theories to support the conceptual framework. The study applies social learning theory to motivate and enhance students’ self-efficacy. It analyzed the correlation between using WeChat for formative feedback and students’ satisfaction with teaching, as well as with response rates. It also analyzed the correlation in four pairs of factors: students’ gender and students’ satisfaction with teaching; students’ parental educational level and students’ satisfaction with teaching; students’ satisfaction and students’ Java grade; as well as student gender and students’ Java grade. The findings showed that using WeChat for formative feedback can significantly increase students’ satisfaction with teaching. Females’ satisfaction with teaching was lower than males’ satisfaction but females’ satisfaction was not statistically significantly lower than males after using formative feedback (posttest). Parental educational level did not correlate to students’ satisfaction with teaching. There was no correlation between student satisfaction and their Java grade. Students’ gender did not have a statistically significant impact on their Java grade, but the females’ average of grades was higher than males and the females’ grades were concentrated in the middle, while males’ grades were distributed in the highest and lowest points. Furthermore, parental educational level did not correlate to students’ satisfaction with teaching
Smart cities air pollution monitoring system - Developing a potential data collecting platform based on Raspberry Pi
>Magister Scientiae - MScAir pollution is becoming a challenging issue in our daily lives due to advanced industrialization.
This thesis presents a solution to collection and dissemination of pollution data. Most of the
devices that monitor air quality are costly and have limited features. The aim of this study is to
revisit the issue of pollution in cities with the aim of providing a cheaper and scalable solution
to the challenge of pollution data collection and dissemination. The solution proposed in this
paper uses Raspberry Pi and Arduino micro-controller boards as the foundation, combined with
specific sensors to facilitate the collection and transfer of pollution data reliably and effectively.
While most traditional air pollution monitoring equipment and similar projects use memory cards
as a medium for data storage, the system proposed in this research is built around a new network
selection model that transfers data to the server by using either Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GSM, or the
LoRa protocol. The connectivity protocol is selected automatically and opportunistically by the
network selection algorithm defined in the micro-controller board. The final data will be
presented to the user through a mobile application and website interface effectively and
intuitively after being processed in the server. This data transfer system can effectively reduce
the cost and input of human resources. It is a viable solution. For other environmental research,
this system can provide an air quality data support for analysis and reference. Modularity and
cost-effectiveness are fully considered when designing the system. It is a viable solution. We can
generalize the system by slightly changing the data transmission modules. In other case, it can
be used as a platform for similar data transmission and offer help for other research directions

Customer entrepreneurship on digital platforms: Challenges and solutions for platform business models
Drawing on the mixed methods of qualitative research and agent-based simulation, this study examines (a) how end-users use digital platforms to become customer–entrepreneurs undertaking commercial activities on platforms, and (b) how platform providers can convert this customer entrepreneurship into a revenue stream. Considering that end-users have traditionally been defined as passive and uncharged actors in platform business models, an in-depth understanding of their commercial activities and the viable revenue model to monetize this emerging customer practice is warranted. Our qualitative study reveals that customer–entrepreneurs make substantial use of platform offerings to advertise their products; communicate with end-consumers; and accept payments. These commercial activities are largely exercised for free on platforms, even though they could otherwise serve as a source of revenue. On this point, our simulation results identify two pricing models achieving the generation of nearly identical revenues over time. First, platform providers may charge both advertising and transaction fees, which maximize the survival of professional customer–entrepreneurs. Second, platform businesses may levy advertising fees only, which maximizes the survival of informal customer–entrepreneurs operating on a micro-scale and part-time basis. This study offers theoretical, methodological and managerial implications for platform studies
