Strenthening local food systems: tracing learning of knowledge and skills by content and discourse analysis
The local food systems meet the food systems of scale on the local market, where the local and regional chains are looking for ways to survive and even to strengthen. The operations of local food systems become decided by many actors embedded in a socially complex local environment. This paper discusses some approaches to learning in the food chains and some qualitative research methods to capture learning in the chains through empirical material. The main research question, the learning of the actors in the local food chain and the effects of learning on the activities of the local chain are opened as more detailed and operative questions
Towards a common standard: comparing European and American cities
This paper assesses to what extent it is possible to construct standardised geographical definitions of cities that will allow American and European cities to be compared in a consistent manner. Estimating a bivariate linear relationship
Solutions of the bivariate, linear errors-in-variables estimation problem
with unspecified errors are expected to be invariant under interchange and
scaling of the coordinates. The appealing model of normally distributed true
values and errors is unidentified without additional information. I propose a
prior density that incorporates the fact that the slope and variance parameters
together determine the covariance matrix of the unobserved true values but is
otherwise diffuse. The marginal posterior density of the slope is invariant to
interchange and scaling of the coordinates and depends on the data only through
the sample correlation coefficient and ratio of standard deviations. It covers
the interval between the two ordinary least squares estimates but diminishes
rapidly outside of it. I introduce the R package leiv for computing the
posterior density, and I apply it to examples in astronomy and method

Guidelines to Study Differences in Expressiveness between Ontology Specification Languages: A Case Of Study
We focus on our experiences on translating ontologies between two ontology languages, FLogic and Ontolingua, in the framework of Methontology and ODE. Rather than building "ad hoc" translators between languages or using KIF, our option consists of translating through ODE intermediate representations. So, we have built direct translators from ODE intermediate representations to Ontolingua and FLogic, and we have also built reverse translators from these two languages to ODE intermediate representations. Expressiveness of the target languages is the main feature to analyse when automatically generating ontologies from ODE intermediate representations. Therefore, we analyse the expressiveness of Ontolingua and FLogic for creating classes, instances, relations, functions and axioms, which are the essential components in ontologies. The motivation for this analysis can be found in the (KA)² initiative and can be easily extended to any other domains and languages
Convolution, Separation and Concurrency
A notion of convolution is presented in the context of formal power series
together with lifting constructions characterising algebras of such series,
which usually are quantales. A number of examples underpin the universality of
these constructions, the most prominent ones being separation logics, where
convolution is separating conjunction in an assertion quantale; interval
logics, where convolution is the chop operation; and stream interval functions,
where convolution is used for analysing the trajectories of dynamical or
real-time systems. A Hoare logic is constructed in a generic fashion on the
power series quantale, which applies to each of these examples. In many cases,
commutative notions of convolution have natural interpretations as concurrency

Ontological Foundations for Scholarly Debate Mapping Technology
Mapping scholarly debates is an important genre of what can be called Knowledge Domain Analytics (KDA) technology – i.e. technology which combines both quantitative and qualitative methods of analysing specialist knowledge domains. However, current KDA technology research has emerged from diverse traditions and thus lacks a common conceptual foundation. This paper reports on the design of a KDA ontology that aims to provide this foundation. The paper then describes the argumentation extensions to the ontology for supporting scholarly debate mapping as a special form of KDA and demonstrates its expressive capabilities using a case study debate

Two exponential neighborhoods for single machine scheduling
We study the problem of minimizing total completion time on a single machine with the presence of release dates. We present two different approaches leading to exponential neighborhoods in which the best improving neighbor can be determined in polynomial time. Furthermore, computational results are presented to get insight in the performance of the developed neighborhoods
