Linear Precoders for Non-Regenerative Asymmetric Two-way Relaying in Cellular Systems
Two-way relaying (TWR) reduces the spectral-efficiency loss caused in
conventional half-duplex relaying. TWR is possible when two nodes exchange data
simultaneously through a relay. In cellular systems, data exchange between base
station (BS) and users is usually not simultaneous e.g., a user (TUE) has
uplink data to transmit during multiple access (MAC) phase, but does not have
downlink data to receive during broadcast (BC) phase. This non-simultaneous
data exchange will reduce TWR to spectrally-inefficient conventional
half-duplex relaying. With infrastructure relays, where multiple users
communicate through a relay, a new transmission protocol is proposed to recover
the spectral loss. The BC phase following the MAC phase of TUE is now used by
the relay to transmit downlink data to another user (RUE). RUE will not be able
to cancel the back-propagating interference. A structured precoder is designed
at the multi-antenna relay to cancel this interference. With multiple-input
multiple-output (MIMO) nodes, the proposed precoder also triangulates the
compound MAC and BC phase MIMO channels. The channel triangulation reduces the
weighted sum-rate optimization to power allocation problem, which is then cast
as a geometric program. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the
proposed protocol over conventional solutions.Comment: 30 pages, 7 figures, submitted to IEEE Transactions on Wireless

Exploiting UAV as NOMA based relay for coverage extension
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) aided communication
has acquired research interest in many civilian and
military applications. The use of UAV as base stations and as
aerial relays to improve coverage of existing cellular networks is prevalent in current literature. Along with this, a few studies have proposed the use of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) in UAV communications. In this paper, we propose a network where a ground user and an aerial UAV relay is accessed using NOMA, where the UAV acts as decode-and-forward (DF) relay to extend the coverage of source. The performance of the proposed
model is shown by evaluating outage behaviour for different
transmit power and fading environments with Monte Carlo
simulations. System throughput of proposed network appears to be better than orthogonal multiple access (OMA) based equivalent network. The results show that with an adequate height of the UAV NOMA based relay, quality of service (QoS) of cell edge user is satisfactory
Resource Allocation for Energy-Efficient 3-Way Relay Channels
Throughput and energy efficiency in 3-way relay channels are studied in this
paper. Unlike previous contributions, we consider a circular message exchange.
First, an outer bound and achievable sum rate expressions for different
relaying protocols are derived for 3-way relay channels. The sum capacity is
characterized for certain SNR regimes. Next, leveraging the derived achievable
sum rate expressions, cooperative and competitive maximization of the energy
efficiency are considered. For the cooperative case, both low-complexity and
globally optimal algorithms for joint power allocation at the users and at the
relay are designed so as to maximize the system global energy efficiency. For
the competitive case, a game theoretic approach is taken, and it is shown that
the best response dynamics is guaranteed to converge to a Nash equilibrium. A
power consumption model for mmWave board-to-board communications is developed,
and numerical results are provided to corroborate and provide insight on the
theoretical findings.Comment: Submitted to IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communication
