    HIERARCHICAL EXAMINATION OF SUCCESS FACTORS ACROSS ERP LIFE-CYCLE

    This study investigates critical success factors (CSF) in implementing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. It reviews 94 such factors discussed in journals, conference proceedings and books, published for the most part in the last decade, covering the full lifecycle of ERP systems. Questionnaires exploring these 94 factors were submitted to hundreds of respondents, divided into five groups. The authors of the study hypothesize that the 94 success factors can be grouped, in overall and in each phase of ERP life cycle, under several extracted construct emerged from a statistical extraction method accompanied by business logic coming up with a term that best describes the content domain of the attributes that weight highly on relevant construct. This study presents an examination process of validity, principal component, similarity, reliability and multicollinearity analyses for hierarchical formations of success factors for the entire ERP life cycle and for each one of the six ERP life cycle phases (planning, implementation, stabilization, backlog, new module and major upgrade). This research exhibits for each ERP life cycle phase the main sub factors that explain the main themes of ERP implementation for the most. Special attention is given to: (a) earlier research on CSFs for ERP implementations, (b) hierarchical formation of parent and sub-factors in overall and in each phase of ERP life cycle and (c) representative meanings of critica

    Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is an integrated application software for widespread use in the organization. The aim of this study is to determine factors that affect the successful implementation of ERP in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Central Java in order to build competitive advantage. To test the hypothesis, this study utilized data from 107 SMEs in Central Java. The results revealed that variable Business Process Reengineering have the greatest influence toward the successful implementation in Small and Medium Enterprises. It is suggested that SMEs should gain knowledge and solidify its business process reengineering before implementing ERP

    The fundamental challenge: human and organisational factors in an ERP implementation

    Organisations encounter obstacles when implementing ERP systems. This paper intends to explore some of the problems that occur throughout the implementation of an ERP system. Using a combination of the work of Markus et al (2001) and Kim et al (2005), a framework is constructed of Human and Organisational and Technical problems in ERP Implementations during the project phase. Drawing on empirical evidences from a UK furniture manufacturer, this study then discusses and analyses each problem identified in the framework and its affect on the implementation of their ERP system. The findings of this paper reveal that the fundamental challenge of ERP implementation is not technology but organisational and human problems, which, if not properly comprehended and addressed, can lead to ERP failure. Understanding that organisational and human issues are extremely important will encourage practitioners to address these problems and succeed in their ERP system implementations

    Critical Success Factors for ERP system upgrades – The Case of a German large-scale Enterprise

    The aim of our study was to gain insight into the research field of critical success factors (CSFs) of enterprise resource planning (ERP) projects, especially the post-implementation phase, with specific focus on system upgrades as an essential part of this phase. Therefore, we conducted a systematic literature review in order to update the existing reviews of CSFs. On the basis of that review, we conducted a single case study within a German large-scale enterprise in the service sector. As a result, we could show that all 31 factors found in the literature review also affect the success of ERP system upgrades. Eight of the top 10 CSFs ranked as most important in the literature review also appear in the top 10 for upgrade projects. However, other factors gained or lost importance considerably in comparison to the literature review

    Enterprise resource planning in construction: An evaluation of recent implementations

    In a large number of construction firms, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems have replaced non-integrated information systems by integrated and maintainable software. The implementation of ERP systems in the construction industry is a difficult task. So far, ERP implementations have yielded more failures than successes in this industry. Our study tries to understand the underlying factors that cause success or failure of ERP in construction by analysing how ERP fits into the IT and business strategy of a firm. Empirical research was conducted by a multiple case study of three ERP-implementations in different business environments. Based on the results of this study, propositions are developed that relate factors for the success of ERP in construction to concepts of the existing literature on IT and strategy.
