Background. Analysis of the organization of the third sector requires the introduction of new concepts in order to describe and explain the principles of their functioning. NGOs are forced to pay more and more attention to relations with cooperating entities, the so-called stakeholders. Building trust seems to be the way of facilitating cooperation, achieving set goals and developing the organization. An important feature of the third sector organizations is that they arise as a result of the grass-root civic initiative, i.e. people who want to achieve a specific goal. This goal can be effectively achieved when cooperation is built on the trust basis. Long Distance Managerial Intervention in Overseas Conflicts: Helping Missionaries Reframe Conflict Along Multiple Dimensions

Effective ways of conflict management must be found for missionaries when no trusted mediator in the region is available. Home office management or leaders in other regions can intervene through context rich media, such as the telephone and video conferencing, to provide help. Intervention through context poor media, such as email, is much less likely to succeed. Effective managerial intervention involving interaction with each party can lead to reframing the conflict into an opportunity to cooperate and find mutually beneficial solutions. The manager can present information, ask questions, and help the parties see that resolution is possible by addressing key issues such as the relative importance of the consequences, the potential win-win nature of the solution, each party’s sense of victimization, and the certainty of continued interaction in the relationship

Legislative strengthening meets party support in international assistance: a closer relationship?

Recent reports recommend that international efforts to help strengthen legislatures in emerging democracies should work more closely with support for building stronger political parties and competitive party systems. This article locates the recommendations within international assistance more generally and reviews the arguments. It explores problems that must be addressed if the recommendations are to be implemented effectively. The article argues that an alternative, issue-based approach to strengthening legislatures and closer links with civil society could gain more traction. However, that is directed more centrally at promoting good governance for the purpose of furthering development than at democratisation goals sought by party aid and legislative strengtheners in the democracy assistance industry
