    Constructing English Reading Courseware

    There is a wide range of English reading materials for EFL (English as a foreign language) learners. However, it is difficult for teachers to select appropriate materials to construct courseware that can be used for an English course. We propose a method for constructing courseware from a target vocabulary and a corpus. We used the specialized vocabulary for the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) and articles from The Daily Yomiuri newspaper to construct effective courseware. The constructed courseware consisted of articles in which the target vocabulary frequently occurred. Evaluation of the constructed courseware is ongoing. However, students have accepted it as an effective tool for learning the TOEIC vocabulary from real texts

    Tese de mestrado, Língua e Cultura Portuguesa, Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Letras, 2012Com este trabalho de investigação pretende dar-se a conhecer as tendências recentes no âmbito do ensino / aprendizagem da língua portuguesa a estrangeiros, nomeadamente no que se refere ao uso da literatura em aulas de PLE. Como forma de abordagem a esta temática sugere-se a obra do escritor português Wenceslau de Moraes, como paradigma de referência para um aluno japonês de língua e cultura portuguesa. Para tal, elaboram-se sugestões de leitura nos capítulos V, VI e VII da obra Relance da Alma Japonesa do referido autor. Finalmente e numa proposta de aplicação prática apresenta-se como sugestão didática um CD-Rom interactivo cuja temática se insere na vida e obra de Wenceslau de Moraes.ABSTRACT: This research paper tries to summarise the most recent discoveries in the teaching and learning of portuguese as a foreign language, in particular the use of literature in PFL lessons. As a means to this end we suggest the works of portuguese writer Wenceslau de Moraes as an ideal reference to the japanese student of portuguese language and culture. For that we present some reading suggestions for the author’s work Relance da Alma Japonesa, chapters V, VI and VII. Finally and as a pratical application proposal we present just as a didactic suggestion an interactive CD-Rom which theme is the life and works of Wenceslau de Moraes
