Development of temporal logic-based fuzzy decision support system for diagnosis of acute rheumatic fever/rheumatic heart disease
In this paper we describe our research work in developing a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) for the diagnosis of Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF)/Rheumatic Heart Diseases (RHD) in Nepal. This paper expressively emphasizes the three problems which have previously not been addressed, which are: (a) ARF in Nepal has created a lot of confusion in the diagnosis and treatment, due to the lack of standard unique procedures, (b) the adoption of foreign guideline is not effective and does not meet the Nepali environment and lifestyle, (c) using (our proposed method) of hybrid methodologies (knowledge-based, temporal theory and Fuzzy logic) together to design and develop a system to diagnose of ARF case an early stage in the English and Nepali version. The three tier architecture is constructed by integrating the MS Access for backend and C#.net for fronted to deployment of the system
A survey on utilization of data mining approaches for dermatological (skin) diseases prediction
Due to recent technology advances, large volumes of medical data is obtained. These data contain valuable information. Therefore data mining techniques can be used to extract useful patterns. This paper is intended to introduce data mining and its various techniques and a survey of the available literature on medical data mining. We emphasize mainly on the application of data mining on skin diseases. A categorization has been provided based on the different data mining techniques. The utility of the various data mining methodologies is highlighted. Generally association mining is suitable for extracting rules. It has been used especially in cancer diagnosis. Classification is a robust method in medical mining. In this paper, we have summarized the different uses of classification in dermatology. It is one of the most important methods for diagnosis of erythemato-squamous diseases. There are different methods like Neural Networks, Genetic Algorithms and fuzzy classifiaction in this topic. Clustering is a useful method in medical images mining. The purpose of clustering techniques is to find a structure for the given data by finding similarities between data according to data characteristics. Clustering has some applications in dermatology. Besides introducing different mining methods, we have investigated some challenges which exist in mining skin data
Constructing Ontology-Based Cancer Treatment Decision Support System with Case-Based Reasoning
Decision support is a probabilistic and quantitative method designed for
modeling problems in situations with ambiguity. Computer technology can be
employed to provide clinical decision support and treatment recommendations.
The problem of natural language applications is that they lack formality and
the interpretation is not consistent. Conversely, ontologies can capture the
intended meaning and specify modeling primitives. Disease Ontology (DO) that
pertains to cancer's clinical stages and their corresponding information
components is utilized to improve the reasoning ability of a decision support
system (DSS). The proposed DSS uses Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) to consider
disease manifestations and provides physicians with treatment solutions from
similar previous cases for reference. The proposed DSS supports natural
language processing (NLP) queries. The DSS obtained 84.63% accuracy in disease
classification with the help of the ontology
Medical analysis and diagnosis by neural networks
In its first part, this contribution reviews shortly the application of neural network methods to medical problems and characterizes its advantages and problems in the context of the medical background. Successful application examples show that human diagnostic capabilities are significantly worse than the neural diagnostic systems. Then, paradigm of neural networks is shortly introduced and the main problems of medical data base and the basic approaches for training and testing a network by medical data are described. Additionally, the problem of interfacing the network and its result is given and the neuro-fuzzy approach is presented. Finally, as case study of neural rule based diagnosis septic shock diagnosis is described, on one hand by a growing neural network and on the other hand by a rule based system. Fuzzy logic as a decision-making support system for the indication of bariatric surgery based on an index (OBESINDEX) generated by the association between body fat and body mass index
Background: A Fuzzy Obesity Index (OBESINDEX) for use as an alternative in bariatric surgery indication (BSI) is presented. The search for a more accurate method to evaluate obesity and to indicate a better treatment is important in the world health context. BMI (body mass index) is considered the main criteria for obesity treatment and BSI. Nevertheless, the fat excess related to the percentage of Body Fat (%BF) is actually the principal harmful factor in obesity disease that is usually neglected. This paper presents a new fuzzy mechanism for evaluating obesity by associating BMI with %BF that yields a fuzzy obesity index for obesity evaluation and treatment and allows building up a Fuzzy Decision Support System (FDSS) for BSI.

Methods: Seventy-two patients were evaluated for both BMI and %BF. These data are modified and treated as fuzzy sets. Afterwards, the BMI and %BF classes are aggregated yielding a new index (OBESINDEX) for input linguistic variable are considered the BMI and %BF, and as output linguistic variable is employed the OBESINDEX, an obesity classification with entirely new classes of obesity in the fuzzy context as well is used for BSI.

Results: There is a gradual, smooth obesity classification and BSI when using the proposed fuzzy obesity index when compared with other traditional methods for dealing with obesity.

Conclusion: The BMI is not adequate for surgical indication in all the conditions and fuzzy logic becomes an alternative for decision making in bariatric surgery indication based on the OBESINDEX

A Model for an Intelligent Support Decision System in Aquaculture
The paper purpose an intelligent software system agents–based to support decision in aquculture and the approach of fish diagnosis with informatics methods, techniques and solutions. A major purpose is to develop new methods and techniques for quick fish diagnosis, treatment and prophyilaxis at infectious and parasite-based known disorders, that may occur at fishes raised in high density in intensive raising systems. But, the goal of this paper is to presents a model of an intelligent agents-based diagnosis method will be developed for a support decision system.support decision system, diagnosis, multi-agent system, fish diseases
Fuzzy rule-based system applied to risk estimation of cardiovascular patients
Cardiovascular decision support is one area of increasing research interest. On-going collaborations between clinicians and computer scientists are looking at the application of knowledge discovery in databases to the area of patient diagnosis, based on clinical records. A fuzzy rule-based system for risk estimation of cardiovascular patients is proposed. It uses a group of fuzzy rules as a knowledge representation about data pertaining to cardiovascular patients. Several algorithms for the discovery of an easily readable and understandable group of fuzzy rules are formalized and analysed. The accuracy of risk estimation and the interpretability of fuzzy rules are discussed. Our study shows, in comparison to other algorithms used in knowledge discovery, that classifcation with a group of fuzzy rules is a useful technique for risk estimation of cardiovascular patients. © 2013 Old City Publishing, Inc

Disease modelling using evolved discriminate function
Precocious diagnosis increases the survival time and patient quality of life. It is a binary classification, exhaustively studied in the literature. This paper innovates proposing the application of genetic programming to obtain a discriminate function. This function contains the disease dynamics used to classify the patients with as little false negative diagnosis as possible. If its value is greater than zero then it means that the patient is ill, otherwise healthy. A graphical representation is proposed to show the influence of each dataset attribute in the discriminate function. The experiment deals with Breast Cancer and Thrombosis & Collagen diseases diagnosis. The main conclusion is that the discriminate function is able to classify the patient using numerical clinical data, and the graphical representation displays patterns that allow understanding of the model
