Kent’s Best Man: Radical Chorographic Consciousness and the Identity Politics of Local History in Shakespeare’s 2 Henry VI
In this article, the character of Jack Cade in Shakespeare’s 2 Henry VI is reconsidered through an exploration of the local history and traditions of Kent. I argue that Shakespeare, through Cade and his followers, created a sense of local historical consciousness which directly challenged the structures of chronicle history and manifests itself in various acts of self-affirmation. Shakespeare departed from his sources by giving Cade a Kentish identity. I also challenge the modern critical consensus that Shakespeare made Cade more violent than he was in the play’s chronicle sources
Application of Digitizing Methods to Urban Area with an Example-- Zong-Ye Historic District, Tainan City
This article attempts to apply digitizing methods to historic assets in old downtown by map overlaying analysis after map rectifying, and then taking textual method through surveying images. After proving and conform through research, townscape could be connected with real historic traces by reality digitizing approach, and it will make a reality aura of formerly district for visitors. In this way the abundant, definite and impressive content of district can be the valuable materials in region development, and the time and space of this district could continue the history and culture of the city. Consequently, this article aims to set up a feasibility proposal applied to it concretely. This article puts forward 1.the district analysis through historic map rectifying 2.the reality digital reconstruction of streets digital archives elements 3.the application on AR(Augmented Reality) in historic district, and brings forward an technological approach which could respond to the challenge of losing regional characteristics in redevelopment process with an example of Zong-Ye historic district in traditional Tainan City. Therefore, this proposal which places great emphasis on local history and culture is equipped with applying value for European cities based on plentiful culture in cultural industries and regional development issues.
Eleven Antitheses on Cities and States: Challenging the Mindscape of Chronology and Chorography in Anthropogenic Climate Change
Our basic argument is that we should be thinking in trans-modern ways when considering how to react to anthropogenic climate change. Showing that mainstream approaches to climate change theory and policymaking are overtly modern, we identify this as a mindscape inherently constrained by its particular chronology and chorography. Our contribution to necessary trans-modern thinking is a presentation of eleven basic and widely accepted theses on modern chronology and chorography that we contest through antitheses, which we argue are more suited to engaging with anthropogenic climate change. These support a consumption argument for urban demand being the crucial generator of climate for 8,000 years in direct contradiction to the production argument that greenhouse gases are the crucial generator of climate change for 200 years. The modern policymaking focus on curbing carbon emissions is thus fundamentally flawed - merely feeding energy for continuing an accelerating global consumption in a different way that is only marginally more climate-friendly. Reflecting on the antitheses, we conclude by discussing the difficulties of translating trans-modern ideas into political action

Urban space and the literary exploration of self : a rhetorician makes a mental tour through his city
Landscape as language: discussing margaret drabble’s a writer’s britain. Landscape in literature, of 1979
(e-book)The love of place is endemic in English literature, from the work of the earliest poets and hermits to the suburban celebrations of John Betjeman, covering all varieties of the British rural and urban landscape. Drabble’s book was the first to present an image of Britain as seen by writers of different regions and periods, and also to illuminate the way in which their work has changed the visual attitudes of the British, their taste in landscape and their relation to nature. Angus Wilson, in The Observer, thought it “enlightening in its constant apposite quotations and in its marvelous movement in and out of scores of major and minor writers without sacrificing any standards of literary judgement”. Richard Holmes, in The Times, described it as “an enormously evocative and rewarding anthology of the English genius loci”.
In this paper, I propose to discuss in particular not only how Drabble’s paradigmatic book, a classic of literary tourism, pictures British landscape as literary language or verbal art but also how modern criticism on literary geographies and cartographies, as well as tourism and heritage studies, might interpret her somewhat dated approach to these issues. As Drabble stated, her book “combines journeys both in place and in time”, representing at once the changing and the unchanging. And because there are many ways of reading landscape, hers “is not a guide or gazeteer, but a personal selection”. For her, “English writers have persisted in finding beauty in the most unexpected corners, in slag heaps and urban wildernesses”; A Writer’s Britain is thus “an opportunity for looking again at familiar authors” and “for tracing clues through the less familiar”.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Elements content in tree rings from Xi'an, China and environmental variations in the past 30 years
Using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), the characteristics of chemical elements were analyzed in white poplar (Populus bonatii Levl.) and ailanthus (Ailanthus altissima (Mill.) Swingle) from three sites in the town of Xi'an, China. The results indicated that the concentration variations of Pb and Cd in tree rings were consistent with that of the environment where the trees were growing. P and Zn were translocated within tree rings to a certain degree, which led to an inaccurate pollution reconstruction. We also found that white poplar had a stronger absorptive capacity of Cd and Zn than ailanthus, which could make white poplar better as a species in environmental remediation. From this research we can see the great potential of tree rings for studying the history of different element pollution in the environment, showing that dendrochemical methods could be used as a powerful component in environmental monitoring programmes, to reconstruct past pollution history at the time when monitoring systems were not yet installed.
