Use-oriented business model
In a world of sustainability challenges, use-oriented product-service system seems promising to encourage resource efficiency. For this project, the concept is integrated in a sustainability-oriented interpretation of the business model Canvas. The aim was to identify enabling factors with a use-oriented business model. A case study was conducted on rental business models in the outdoors apparel industry in Scandinavia. The key findings indicate that companies introducing use-oriented services struggle with increased transportation, linear technological systems, large financial capital needs and cultural barriers. To overcome these challenges the case study points to the importance of partnerships. Furthermore, this paper suggests expanding the Business Model Canvas framework with three additional elements: reduced material flows, reverse logistics and cultural adoption factor. The extended Canvas model can be used as a conceptual tool for companies when developing rental services
Multi-layer Architecture For Storing Visual Data Based on WCF and Microsoft SQL Server Database
In this paper we present a novel architecture for storing visual data.
Effective storing, browsing and searching collections of images is one of the
most important challenges of computer science. The design of architecture for
storing such data requires a set of tools and frameworks such as SQL database
management systems and service-oriented frameworks. The proposed solution is
based on a multi-layer architecture, which allows to replace any component
without recompilation of other components. The approach contains five
components, i.e. Model, Base Engine, Concrete Engine, CBIR service and
Presentation. They were based on two well-known design patterns: Dependency
Injection and Inverse of Control. For experimental purposes we implemented the
SURF local interest point detector as a feature extractor and -means
clustering as indexer. The presented architecture is intended for content-based

The widespread adoption of cell phones and other mobile platforms represents an opportunity to extend the benefits of personalized, point-of-care, healthcare applications to providers and patients in the developing world. However, the challenges facing the effective deployment of mobile health care applications are complex, and thus require a scalable, flexible, and configurable approach. A service-oriented-architecture-based conceptual framework is proposed to address the challenges of developing and deploying mobile health care applications. A particular emphasis of the framework is a service-agent-modeling-based composite process-personalization support that is needed to support the diverse and adaptable needs of the users
SOA-Based Distributed System in Online Transaction Processing
Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) with transactional workflow support is a state- of- the- art architectural style for constructing enterprise application. In this research, rate of progress activities raise distributed service in a coordinated manner, using transaction context propagating message, coordination protocol and compensation logic. We reviewed the past, present and future of transaction processing and transaction integrity. Most of the challenges and requirement that led to the development and evolution of transaction processing system are still applicable today and recently, we have some intriguing developments. Efficiency measurement of cloud service providers using network data envelopment analysis
An increasing number of organizations and businesses around the world use cloud computing services to improve their performance in the competitive marketplace. However, one of the biggest challenges in using cloud computing services is performance measurement and the selection of the best cloud service providers (CSPs) based on quality of service (QoS) requirements (Duan, 2017). To address this shortcoming in this article we propose a network data envelopment analysis (DEA) method in measuring the efficiency of CSPs. When network dimensions are taken into consideration, a more comprehensive analysis is enabled where divisional efficiency is reflected in overall efficiency estimates. This helps managers and decision makers in organizations to make accurate decisions in selecting cloud services. In the current study, variable returns to scale (VRS), the non-oriented network slacks-based measure (SBM) model and input-oriented and output-oriented SBM models are applied to measure the performance of 18 CSPs. The obtained results show the superiority of the network DEA model and they also demonstrate that the proposed model can evaluate and rank CSPs much better than compared to traditional DEA models
Adaptive data synchronization algorithm for IoT-oriented low-power wide-area networks
The Internet of Things (IoT) is by now very close to be realized, leading the world towards a new technological era where people’s lives and habits will be definitively revolutionized. Furthermore, the incoming 5G technology promises significant enhancements concerning the Quality of Service (QoS) in mobile communications. Having billions of devices simultaneously connected has opened new challenges about network management and data exchange rules that need to be tailored to the characteristics of the considered scenario. A large part of the IoT market is pointing to Low-Power Wide-Area Networks (LPWANs) representing the infrastructure for several applications having energy saving as a mandatory goal besides other aspects of QoS. In this context, we propose a low-power IoT-oriented file synchronization protocol that, by dynamically optimizing the amount of data to be transferred, limits the device level of interaction within the network, therefore extending the battery life. This protocol can be adopted with different Layer 2 technologies and provides energy savings at the IoT device level that can be exploited by different applications

The paradigm of the Internet of Services envisions trade on a global service-enabled internet.
Companies, which participate in this new world of services, face the challenges of changing market
conditions, new competitive threats, and new legal regulations. Service-oriented Architectures (SOA)
provide a promising way to address some of these challenges at the level of the company’s IT
infrastructure. In order to guideline an enterprise’s organization and IT and ensure smooth
operations, governance frameworks have been established. More specifically, IT Governance and
recently SOA Governance have been introduced. The basic structure of IT Governance frameworks is
applicable to an SOA. However, they lack functionality or applicability concerning SOA-specific
challenges. Current approaches, which focus on mere SOA Governance, lack framework scope and
are mostly driven by individual companies. This issue aggravates taking into account the shift to an
Internet of Services. We identify key issues and provide initial insights on building blocks for a Service
Governance Framework which enables operations for companies in a moderated service network. We
discuss service life cycle phases, stakeholder roles, and management processes taking into
consideration existing frameworks such as ITIL and CObIT as well as industry-specific approaches
from companies such as SAP, Oracle, and HP
