    The Methodology of Information Technology Strategic Planning for Electricity Distribution Industry with a Focus on Information Technology Infrastructure Library

    Strategic planning plays a key role in the future success of organizations. Information technology as an emerging field in Iranian organizations requires strategic planning to succeed. In this study, after a systematic review of the IT strategy development methods and the evolution of these approaches, an indigenous approach is developed to develop the IT strategy of the distribution companies. This method is a quantitative-qualitative hybrid. During this five-phase study, the organization's cognition is based on the information architecture of processes, and then based on the business and IT alignment perspective, achieving optimal status in information technology infrastructure library as one of the business and information technology alignment methods with the IT governance approach, is followed. By matching the business processes of the electricity distribution and information technology infrastructure library, the status quo and the desired status in each process were determined based on the opinions of business experts. Accordingly, the processes of service continuity management, service catalog management and service portfolio management were the most distant from the desired situation, and for the other processes the same gap analysis was performed. Based on the distance analysis, appropriate strategies were provided for each of the information technology infrastructure library processes according to the best practices

    The Internationalization of Creative Professional Service Firms

    The need to understand the internationalization process of the organization is a field of increasing contemporary interest due to greatly intensified trade flows between nations over the last two decades. While traditionally internationalization was generally pursued by manufacturing firms, service organizations, including creative professional service firms (creative PSFs) such as architects now commonly internationalize their activities. However, theory to date continues to focus on traditional manufacturing firms, and while insights relating to service firm internationalization have gained traction over the last decade, theoretical contributions remain fragmented and overlook the particular features of how creative PSFs internationalize. This is despite the growing recognition that trade in creative knowledge intensive services is a critical component to the health and competitiveness of both mature and emerging economies. This study addresses this gap by exploring how creative PSFs internationalize using ten case studies within the architecture sector. The in-depth qualitative analysis of interview and archival data enables the composition of three research papers, representing three key theoretical contributions. The primary contributions are to international business (IB) literature, firstly by unpacking the portfolio of business models that creative PSFs use to internationalize, and secondly by identifying how creative PSFs internationalize by moving from outside to inside relevant international networks. The second paper also adds to organizational status literature by uncovering the interplay between hierarchies of networks. The identification of a strategic dichotomy within the particular creative PSF sector detailed in the first paper represents a significant contribution to the PSF literature

    Rfid-based business process and workflow management in healthcare:design and implementation

    The healthcare system in the United States is considered one of the most complex systems and has encountered challenges related to patient safety concerns, escalating costs, and unpredictable outcomes. Many of these problems share a common cause - a lack of efficient business process management and visibility into the real-time location, status, and condition of medical resources. The goal of this research is to propose a newly integrated system to model, automate, and monitor healthcare business processes using an automatic data collection technology to record the timing and location of activities and identify their various resources. This dissertation makes several contributions to the design and implementation of RFID-based business process and workflow management in healthcare. First, I propose a road map to implement RFID in hospitals with performance matrixes for technology evaluation, key criteria for resolution level setting, and business rules for information extraction. Second, RFID-based business process management (BPM) concepts and workflow technologies are used to transform the reprocessing procedures in a Sterile Processing Department (SPD) for the purpose of reducing infections caused by unclean reusable medical equipment. In the proposed pattern for healthcare business process management, the importance of execution status control is emphasized as a key component to handle complex and dynamic healthcare processes. A five-level framework for service-oriented business process management is designed for SPDs to share information, integrate distributed systems, and manage heterogeneous resources among multiple stakeholders. This research proposes a healthcare workflow system as a deliverable solution to manage the execution phase of reprocessing procedures, which supports the design, execution, monitoring, and automation of services supplied in SPDs. RFID techniques are adopted to collect relative real-time data for SPD performance management. Finally, by identifying key architectural requirements, the subsystems of a service-oriented architecture for the SPD workflow prototyping system, SPDFLOW, are discussed in detail. This research is the first attempt to explore healthcare workflow technologies in the SPD domain to improve the quality of reusable medical equipment and ensure patient safety

    Factory Planning System Considering Energy-efficient Process under Cloud Manufacturing

    AbstractCloud computing sets to make a change in business between enterprises over the internet based on services providing dynamically reconfigurable and virtualized networks. It is difficult for an aircraft manufacturer to consider the performance and status of each factory (i.e., capacity, inventory, order, technology, etc.) because of the huge amount of suppliers. In legacy environments, the supplier consumed a long time to identify the machine and process required and the energy to be consumed in order to satisfy a new customer demand. If the process occurred with a new order should be optimized, additional time and cost were needed. Cloud computing can enable the relationship between the manufacturer and suppliers of aircraft, which is representative of mass customized products, to be flexible and efficient. In order to enhance the response time during contracting with suppliers, this paper focuses on an architecture, providing a service for a decision with the concerns about the time and cost as well as energy with regard to process planning. For realizing this service the manufacturer provides the process plan described using neutral language for numerical controllers called ‘STEP-NC’ which is independent from a specific machine tool. On the supplier side, the machinability check, tool path generation and energy use estimation should be identified with machine tool specifications described by STEP-NC. In the Cloud computing environment, the analysis is performed to check the possibility that a supplier can complete a new order from the manufacturer on the due date with the analysis of machine tools and on-going production schedule. This function is developed in a system which can be installed on a virtual platform and provided by a cloud service

    Towards Consistency Management for a Business-Driven Development of SOA

    The usage of the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) along with the Business Process Management has emerged as a valuable solution for the complex (business process driven) system engineering. With a Model Driven Engineering where the business process models drive the supporting service component architectures, less effort is gone into the Business/IT alignment during the initial development activities, and the IT developers can rapidly proceed with the SOA implementation. However, the difference between the design principles of the emerging domainspecific languages imposes serious challenges in the following re-design phases. Moreover, enabling evolutions on the business process models while keeping them synchronized with the underlying software architecture models is of high relevance to the key elements of any Business Driven Development (BDD). Given a business process update, this paper introduces an incremental model transformation approach that propagates this update to the related service component configurations. It, therefore, supports the change propagation among heterogenous domainspecific languages, e.g., the BPMN and the SCA. As a major contribution, our approach makes model transformation more tractable to reconfigure system architecture without disrupting its structural consistency. We propose a synchronizer that provides the BPMN-to-SCA model synchronization with the help of the conditional graph rewriting

    Improving sustainability through intelligent cargo and adaptive decision making

    In the current society, logistics is faced with the challenge to meet more stringent sustainability goals. Shippers and transport service providers both aim to reduce the carbon footprint of their logistic operations. To do so, optimal use of logistics resources and physical infrastructure should be aimed for. An adaptive decision making process for the selection of a specific transport modality, transport provider and timeslot (aimed at minimisation of the carbon footprint) enables shippers to achieve this. This requires shippers to have access to up-to-date capacity information from transport providers (e.g. current and scheduled loading status of the various transport means and information on carbon footprint) and traffic information (e.g. city logistics and current traffic information). A prerequisite is an adequate infrastructure for collaboration and open exchange of information between the various stakeholders in the logistics value chain to obtain the up-to-date information. This paper gives a view on how such an advanced information infrastructure can be realised, currently being developed within the EU iCargo project. The paper describes a reference logistics value chain, including business benefits for each of the roles in the logistics value chain of aiming for sustainability. A case analysis is presented that reflects a practical situation in which the various roles collaborate and exchange information for realizing sustainability goals, using adaptive decision making for selecting a transport modality, transport provider, and timeslot.     An extensible manufacturing resource model for process integration

    Driven by industrial needs and enabled by process technology and information technology, enterprise integration is rapidly shifting from information integration to process integration to improve overall performance of enterprises. Traditional resource models are established based on the needs of individual applications. They cannot effectively serve process integration which needs resources to be represented in a unified, comprehensive and flexible way to meet the needs of various applications for different business processes. This paper looks into this issue and presents a configurable and extensible resource model which can be rapidly reconfigured and extended to serve for different applications. To achieve generality, the presented resource model is established from macro level and micro level. A semantic representation method is developed to improve the flexibility and extensibility of the model
