Face recognition in different subspaces - A comparative study
Face recognition is one of the most successful applications of image analysis and understanding and has gained much attention in recent years. Among many approaches to the problem of face recognition, appearance-based subspace analysis still gives the most promising results. In this paper we study the three most popular appearance-based face recognition projection methods (PCA, LDA and ICA). All methods are tested in equal working conditions regarding preprocessing and algorithm implementation on the FERET data set with its standard tests. We also compare the ICA method with its whitening preprocess and find out that there is no significant difference between them. When we compare different projection with different metrics we found out that the LDA+COS combination is the most promising for all tasks. The L1 metric gives the best results in
combination with PCA and ICA1, and COS is superior to any other metric when used with LDA and ICA2. Our results are compared to other studies and some discrepancies are pointed ou
The Influence of Outsourcing and Information and Communication Technology on Virtualization of the Company
In the article we investigate the field of virtual organizations, which in the definition of many authors consists of two components: outsourcing and information and communication technology. In the study we have tried to determine which of the two, in the opinion of employees working in the area of Slovene tourism, contributes to a greater degree to virtualization of the company. We determine that outsourcing influences the virtualization of the company more strongly than does information and communication technology, since it enables the company to acquire new knowledge and know-how and increase its competitiveness in the marketplace.virtual organization, outsourcing, information and communication technology
Understanding ISOās 9001 Benefits and Research through an Operations Strategy Framework
Despite the success that the ISO 9001 standard has achieved it has been extensively criticized and empirical studies have shown controversial results about its impact on performance. Our conceptual study was motivated by the mentioned dilemma about ISO 9001 effectiveness, and the controversy that this dilemma raises in literature on the one hand and on the other by almost exponential growth of certifications among companies world-wide. It is our opinion that in order to understand results related to ISO 9001 implementation we need to take a step back from empirical research and instead try to analyze iso conceptually by taking into account also the results of empirical studies implemented in the past. The purpose of the paper is to clarify the purpose of implementation of ISO 9001 and, in relation to this purpose, to analyze different possible benefits resulting from its implementation. In order to achieve this purpose our goal is to analyze the criticism of the old ISO 9001:1994 by using a specific framework of the operations strategy theory. The paper emphasises that in accordance with its conformance purpose, ISO 9001 is successful in building conformance capability and that by using ISO 9001 practices companies can also benefit in relation to production economics through improved process efficiency and to other competitive capabilities. It also emphasises that empirical results expected from ISO 9001 implementation are strategy contingent and therefore this should be taken into account in designing empirical studies about isoās benefits.ISO 9001, quality assurance, conformity, standards
Do internal symmetries get restored in hot and dense SUSY?
I offer some computational details and useful and concise formulae to
calculate the effective potential for a general abelian supersymmetric model at
high temperature and density. It will be shown that such cases are very good
candidates for symmetry nonrestoration at high temperature, providing large
densities are present.Comment: 3 pages, uses sprocl.sty, talk given at the International Workshop

High Temperature Symmetry Nonrestoration
This is a short review on the subject of symmetry nonrestoration at high
temperature. Special emphasis is put on experimental discoveries and different
theoretical mechanisms. At the end, possible cosmological applications are
briefly mentioned.Comment: 7 pages; plenary talk at COSMO99, Trieste, Italy, Sep 27 - Oct 2,

Flat directions in susy guts
It is shown that a realistic SUSY SU(6) GUT can dynamically generate the GUT
scale and solve at the same time the doublet-triplet splitting problem. The
cosmological implications of such a model are briefly reviewed.Comment: 3 pages, Latex, uses sprocl.sty; talk given by B.B. at SUSY'01, June
