eDWaaS: A Scalable Educational Data Warehouse as a Service

The university management is perpetually in the process of innovating policies to improve the quality of service. Intellectual growth of the students, the popularity of university are some of the major areas that management strives to improve upon. Relevant historical data is needed in support of taking any decision. Furthermore, providing data to various university ranking frameworks is a frequent activity in recent years. The format of such requirement changes frequently which requires efficient manual effort. Maintaining a data warehouse can be a solution to this problem. However, both in-house and outsourced implementation of a dedicated data warehouse may not be a cost-effective and smart solution. This work proposes an educational data warehouse as a service (eDWaaS) model to store historical data for multiple universities. The proposed multi-tenant schema facilitates the universities to maintain their data warehouse in a cost-effective solution. It also addresses the scalability issues in implementing such data warehouse as a service model.Comment: 17th International Conference on Intelligent Systems Design and Applications (ISDA 2017). Dagstuhl seminar 10381 on robust query processing (held 19.09.10 - 24.09.10) brought together a diverse set of researchers and practitioners with a broad range of expertise for the purpose of fostering discussion and collaboration regarding causes, opportunities, and solutions for achieving robust query processing. The seminar strove to build a unified view across the loosely-coupled system components responsible for the various stages of database query processing. Participants were chosen for their experience with database query processing and, where possible, their prior work in academic research or in product development towards robustness in database query processing. In order to pave the way to motivate, measure, and protect future advances in robust query processing, seminar 10381 focused on developing tests for measuring the robustness of query processing. In these proceedings, we first review the seminar topics, goals, and results, then present abstracts or notes of some of the seminar break-out sessions. We also include, as an appendix, the robust query processing reading list that was collected and distributed to participants before the seminar began, as well as summaries of a few of those papers that were contributed by some participants

Comprehensible Control for Researchers and Developers facing Data Challenges

The DARE platform enables researchers and their developers to exploit more capabilities to handle complexity and scale in data, computation and collaboration. Today’s challenges pose increasing and urgent demands for this combination of capabilities. To meet technical, economic and governance constraints, application communities must use use shared digital infrastructure principally via virtualisation and mapping. This requires precise abstractions that retain their meaning while their implementations and infrastructures change. Giving specialists direct control over these capabilities with detail relevant to each discipline is necessary for adoption. Research agility, improved power and retained return on intellectual investment incentivise that adoption. We report on an architecture for establishing and sustaining the necessary optimised mappings and early evaluations of its feasibility with two application communities.PublishedSan Diego (CA, USA)3IT.
