Analysis and synthesis of weighted-sum functions

    Get PDF
A weighted-sum (WS) function computes the sum of selected integers. This paper considers a design method for WS functions by look-up table (LUT) cascades. In particular, it derives upper bounds on the column multiplicities of decomposition charts for WS functions. From these, the size of LUT cascades that realize WS functions can be estimated. The arithmetic decomposition of a WS function is also shown. With this method, a WS function can be implemented with cascades and adders

    Decomposition tool targeting FPGA architectures

The growing interest in the field of logic synthesis targeting Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) and the active research carried out by a number of research groups in the area of functional decomposition is the prime motivation for this thesis. Logic synthesis has been an area of interest in many universities all over the world. The work involves the study and implementation of techniques and methods in logic synthesis. In this work, a logic synthesis tool has been developed implementing the aspects of general and complete Decomposition method based on functional decomposition techniques [4]. The tool is aimed at producing outputs faster and more efficient than the available software. C++ Standard template library is used to develop this tool. The output of this tool is designed to be compatible with the available vendor software. The tool has been tested on MCNC benchmarks and those created keeping in mind the industry requirements

Logic Synthesis for Established and Emerging Computing

    Get PDF
Logic synthesis is an enabling technology to realize integrated computing systems, and it entails solving computationally intractable problems through a plurality of heuristic techniques. A recent push toward further formalization of synthesis problems has shown to be very useful toward both attempting to solve some logic problems exactly--which is computationally possible for instances of limited size today--as well as creating new and more powerful heuristics based on problem decomposition. Moreover, technological advances including nanodevices, optical computing, and quantum and quantum cellular computing require new and specific synthesis flows to assess feasibility and scalability. This review highlights recent progress in logic synthesis and optimization, describing models, data structures, and algorithms, with specific emphasis on both design quality and emerging technologies. Example applications and results of novel techniques to established and emerging technologies are reported
