Automorphisms fixing a variable of K<x,y,z>
We study automorphisms of the free associative algebra K over a field
K which fix z and such that the images of x, y are linear with respect to x, y.
We prove that some of these automorphisms are wild in the class of all
automorphisms fixing z, including the well known automorphism discovered by
Anick, and show how to recognize the wild ones. This class of automorphisms
induces tame automorphisms of the polynomial algebra K[x,y,z]. For n>2 the
automorphisms of K which fix z and are linear in the x's are
tame.Comment: 8 page
Rings of skew polynomials and Gel'fand-Kirillov conjecture for quantum groups
We introduce and study action of quantum groups on skew polynomial rings and
related rings of quotients. This leads to a ``q-deformation'' of the
Gel'fand-Kirillov conjecture which we partially prove. We propose a
construction of automorphisms of certain non-commutaive rings of quotients
coming from complex powers of quantum group generators; this is applied to
explicit calculation of singular vectors in Verma modules over
U_{q}(\gtsl_{n+1}).
We finally give a definition of a connection with coefficients in a ring
of skew polynomials and study the structure of quantum group modules twisted by
a connection.Comment: 25 page
Toward a fundamental groupoid for the stable homotopy category
This very speculative sketch suggests that a theory of fundamental groupoids
for tensor triangulated categories could be used to describe the ring of
integers as the singular fiber in a family of ring-spectra parametrized by a
structure space for the stable homotopy category, and that Bousfield
localization might be part of a theory of `nearby' cycles for stacks or
orbifolds.Comment: This is the version published by Geometry & Topology Monographs on 18
