Artificial Immune Systems - Models, algorithms and applications
Copyright © 2010 Academic Research Publishing Agency. This article has been made available through the Brunel Open Access Publishing Fund.Artificial Immune Systems (AIS) are computational paradigms that belong to the computational intelligence family and are inspired by the biological immune system. During the past decade, they have attracted a lot of interest from researchers aiming to develop immune-based models and techniques to solve complex computational or engineering problems. This work presents a survey of existing AIS models and algorithms with a focus on the last five years. This article is available through the Brunel Open Access Publishing Fun
Comparative Studies on Decentralized Multiloop PID Controller Design Using Evolutionary Algorithms
Decentralized PID controllers have been designed in this paper for
simultaneous tracking of individual process variables in multivariable systems
under step reference input. The controller design framework takes into account
the minimization of a weighted sum of Integral of Time multiplied Squared Error
(ITSE) and Integral of Squared Controller Output (ISCO) so as to balance the
overall tracking errors for the process variables and required variation in the
corresponding manipulated variables. Decentralized PID gains are tuned using
three popular Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs) viz. Genetic Algorithm (GA),
Evolutionary Strategy (ES) and Cultural Algorithm (CA). Credible simulation
comparisons have been reported for four benchmark 2x2 multivariable processes.Comment: 6 pages, 9 figure
Optimisation of Mobile Communication Networks - OMCO NET
The mini conference “Optimisation of Mobile Communication Networks” focuses on advanced methods for search and optimisation applied to wireless communication networks. It is sponsored by Research & Enterprise Fund Southampton Solent University.
The conference strives to widen knowledge on advanced search methods capable of optimisation of wireless communications networks. The aim is to provide a forum for exchange of recent knowledge, new ideas and trends in this progressive and challenging area. The conference will popularise new successful approaches on resolving hard tasks such as minimisation of transmit power, cooperative and optimal routing
Multi-agent evolutionary systems for the generation of complex virtual worlds
Modern films, games and virtual reality applications are dependent on
convincing computer graphics. Highly complex models are a requirement for the
successful delivery of many scenes and environments. While workflows such as
rendering, compositing and animation have been streamlined to accommodate
increasing demands, modelling complex models is still a laborious task. This
paper introduces the computational benefits of an Interactive Genetic Algorithm
(IGA) to computer graphics modelling while compensating the effects of user
fatigue, a common issue with Interactive Evolutionary Computation. An
intelligent agent is used in conjunction with an IGA that offers the potential
to reduce the effects of user fatigue by learning from the choices made by the
human designer and directing the search accordingly. This workflow accelerates
the layout and distribution of basic elements to form complex models. It
captures the designer's intent through interaction, and encourages playful
discovery
Assembly and Disassembly Planning by using Fuzzy Logic & Genetic Algorithms
The authors propose the implementation of hybrid Fuzzy Logic-Genetic
Algorithm (FL-GA) methodology to plan the automatic assembly and disassembly
sequence of products. The GA-Fuzzy Logic approach is implemented onto two
levels. The first level of hybridization consists of the development of a Fuzzy
controller for the parameters of an assembly or disassembly planner based on
GAs. This controller acts on mutation probability and crossover rate in order
to adapt their values dynamically while the algorithm runs. The second level
consists of the identification of theoptimal assembly or disassembly sequence
by a Fuzzy function, in order to obtain a closer control of the technological
knowledge of the assembly/disassembly process. Two case studies were analyzed
in order to test the efficiency of the Fuzzy-GA methodologies
A self-learning particle swarm optimizer for global optimization problems
Copyright @ 2011 IEEE. All Rights Reserved. This article was made available through the Brunel Open Access Publishing Fund.Particle swarm optimization (PSO) has been shown as an effective tool for solving global optimization problems. So far, most PSO algorithms use a single learning pattern for all particles, which means that all particles in a swarm use the same strategy. This monotonic learning pattern may cause the lack of intelligence for a particular particle, which makes it unable to deal with different complex situations. This paper presents a novel algorithm, called self-learning particle swarm optimizer (SLPSO), for global optimization problems. In SLPSO, each particle has a set of four strategies to cope with different situations in the search space. The cooperation of the four strategies is implemented by an adaptive learning framework at the individual level, which can enable a particle to choose the optimal strategy according to its own local fitness landscape. The experimental study on a set of 45 test functions and two real-world problems show that SLPSO has a superior performance in comparison with several other peer algorithms. This work was supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council of U.K. under Grants EP/E060722/1 and EP/E060722/2
