Toolflows for Mapping Convolutional Neural Networks on FPGAs: A Survey and Future Directions
In the past decade, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have demonstrated
state-of-the-art performance in various Artificial Intelligence tasks. To
accelerate the experimentation and development of CNNs, several software
frameworks have been released, primarily targeting power-hungry CPUs and GPUs.
In this context, reconfigurable hardware in the form of FPGAs constitutes a
potential alternative platform that can be integrated in the existing deep
learning ecosystem to provide a tunable balance between performance, power
consumption and programmability. In this paper, a survey of the existing
CNN-to-FPGA toolflows is presented, comprising a comparative study of their key
characteristics which include the supported applications, architectural
choices, design space exploration methods and achieved performance. Moreover,
major challenges and objectives introduced by the latest trends in CNN
algorithmic research are identified and presented. Finally, a uniform
evaluation methodology is proposed, aiming at the comprehensive, complete and

An Approach to Agent-Based Service Composition and Its Application to Mobile
This paper describes an architecture model for multiagent systems that was developed in the European project LEAP (Lightweight Extensible Agent Platform). Its main feature is a set of generic services that are implemented independently of the agents and can be installed into the agents by the application developer in a flexible way. Moreover, two applications using this architecture model are described that were also developed within the LEAP project. The application domain is the support of mobile, virtual teams for the German automobile club ADAC and for British Telecommunications
A short curriculum of the robotics and technology of computer lab
Our research Lab is directed by Prof. Anton Civit. It is an interdisciplinary group of 23
researchers that carry out their teaching and researching labor at the Escuela

BRISC-V emulator: a standalone, installation-free, browser-based teaching tool
Many computer organization and computer architecture classes have recently started adopting the RISC-V architecture as an alternative to proprietary RISC ISAs and architectures. Emulators are a common teaching tool used to introduce students to writing assembly. We present the BRISC-V (Boston University RISC-V) Emulator and teaching tool, a RISC-V emulator inspired by existing RISC and CISC emulators. The emulator is a web-based, pure javascript implementation meant to simplify deployment, as it does not require maintaining support for different operating systems or any installation. Live Demonstration: Real-time neuro-inspired sound source localization and tracking architecture applied to a robotic platform
This live demonstration presents a sound source
localization and tracking system implemented with Spike Signal
Processing (SSP) building blocks on FPGA devices. The system
architecture is based on the ability of the mammalian auditory
system to locate the direction of a sound in the horizontal plane
using the interaural intensity difference. We used a binaural
Neuromorphic Auditory Sensor to obtain spike rates similar to
those generated by the inner hair cells of the human auditory
system and the component that obtains the interaural intensity
difference is inspired by the lateral superior olive. The spike
stream that represents the interaural intensity difference is used
to turn a robotic platform towards the sound source direction.
The system was tested with pure tones (1-kHz, 2.5-kHz and 5-
