Topic-enhanced memory networks for personalised point-of-interest recommendation
Point-of-Interest (POI) recommender systems play a vital role in people's
lives by recommending unexplored POIs to users and have drawn extensive
attention from both academia and industry. Despite their value, however, they
still suffer from the challenges of capturing complicated user preferences and
fine-grained user-POI relationship for spatio-temporal sensitive POI
recommendation. Existing recommendation algorithms, including both shallow and
deep approaches, usually embed the visiting records of a user into a single
latent vector to model user preferences: this has limited power of
representation and interpretability. In this paper, we propose a novel
topic-enhanced memory network (TEMN), a deep architecture to integrate the
topic model and memory network capitalising on the strengths of both the global
structure of latent patterns and local neighbourhood-based features in a
nonlinear fashion. We further incorporate a geographical module to exploit
user-specific spatial preference and POI-specific spatial influence to enhance
recommendations. The proposed unified hybrid model is widely applicable to
various POI recommendation scenarios. Extensive experiments on real-world
WeChat datasets demonstrate its effectiveness (improvement ratio of 3.25% and
29.95% for context-aware and sequential recommendation, respectively). Also,
qualitative analysis of the attention weights and topic modeling provides
insight into the model's recommendation process and results.China Scholarship Council and Cambridge Trus
A domain-specific analysis system for examining nuclear reactor simulation data for light-water and sodium-cooled fast reactors
Building a new generation of fission reactors in the United States presents
many technical and regulatory challenges. One important challenge is the need
to share and present results from new high-fidelity, high-performance
simulations in an easily usable way. Since modern multiscale, multi-physics
simulations can generate petabytes of data, they will require the development
of new techniques and methods to reduce the data to familiar quantities of
interest (e.g., pin powers, temperatures) with a more reasonable resolution and
size. Furthermore, some of the results from these simulations may be new
quantities for which visualization and analysis techniques are not immediately
available in the community and need to be developed.
This paper describes a new system for managing high-performance simulation
results in a domain-specific way that naturally exposes quantities of interest
for light water and sodium-cooled fast reactors. It describes requirements to
build such a system and the technical challenges faced in its development at
all levels (simulation, user interface, etc.). An example comparing results
from two different simulation suites for a single assembly in a light-water
reactor is presented, along with a detailed discussion of the system's
requirements and design.Comment: Article on NiCE's Reactor Analyzer. 23 pages. Keywords: modeling,

Numerical simulation of the stress-strain state of the dental system
We present mathematical models, computational algorithms and software, which
can be used for prediction of results of prosthetic treatment. More interest
issue is biomechanics of the periodontal complex because any prosthesis is
accompanied by a risk of overloading the supporting elements. Such risk can be
avoided by the proper load distribution and prediction of stresses that occur
during the use of dentures. We developed the mathematical model of the
periodontal complex and its software implementation. This model is based on
linear elasticity theory and allows to calculate the stress and strain fields
in periodontal ligament and jawbone. The input parameters for the developed
model can be divided into two groups. The first group of parameters describes
the mechanical properties of periodontal ligament, teeth and jawbone (for
example, elasticity of periodontal ligament etc.). The second group
characterized the geometric properties of objects: the size of the teeth, their
spatial coordinates, the size of periodontal ligament etc. The mechanical
properties are the same for almost all, but the input of geometrical data is
complicated because of their individual characteristics. In this connection, we
develop algorithms and software for processing of images obtained by computed
tomography (CT) scanner and for constructing individual digital model of the
tooth-periodontal ligament-jawbone system of the patient. Integration of models
and algorithms described allows to carry out biomechanical analysis on
three-dimensional digital model and to select prosthesis design.Comment: 19 pages, 9 figure
