    Distorted Fingerprint Verification System

    Fingerprint verification is one of the most reliable personal identification methods. Fingerprint matching is affected by non-linear distortion introduced in fingerprint impression during the image acquisition process. This non-linear deformation changes both the position and orientation of minutiae. The proposed system operates in three stages: alignment based fingerprint matching, fuzzy clustering and classifier framework. First, an enhanced input fingerprint image has been aligned with the template fingerprint image and matching score is computed. To improve the performance of the system, a fuzzy clustering based on distance and density has been used to cluster the feature set obtained from the fingerprint matcher. Finally a classifier framework has been developed and found that cost sensitive classifier produces better results. The system has been evaluated on fingerprint database and the experimental result shows that system produces a verification rate of 96%.     Enhanced Fuzzy Feature Match Algorithm for Mehndi Fingerprints

    The performance of biometric system is degraded by the distortions occurred in finger print image acquisition. This paper focuses on nonlinear distortions occurred due to �Mehndi / Heena drawn on the palm/fingers. The present invention is to detect and rectify such distortions using feedback paradigm. If image is of good quality, there is no need to renovate features. So, quality of whole image is checked by generating exponential similarity distribution. Quality of local region is checked by the ridge continuity map and ridge clarity map. Then, we check whether feedback is needed or not. The desired features such as ridge structure, minutiae point, orientation, etc. are renovated using feedback paradigm. Feedback is taken from top K matched template fingerprints registered in the database. Fuzzy logic handles uncertainties and imperfections in images. For matching, we have proposed the Enhanced Fuzzy Feature Match (EFFM) for estimating triangular feature set of distance between minutiae, orientation angle of minutiae, angle between the direction of minutiae points, angle between the interior bisector of triangle and the direction of minutiae, and a minutiae type. The proposed algorithm incorporates an additional parameter minutiae type that assists to improve accuracy of matching algorithm. The experimentation on 300 Mehndi fingerprints acquired using Secugen fingerprint scanner is conducted. The results positively support EEFM for its efficiency and reliability to handle distorted fingerprints matching

    Comparison of the Minutiae Quadruplets and Minutiae Triplets Techniques

    Identifying distorted ngerprint images is a major problem in ngerprint recog-nition systems. Several techniques, such as the minutiae triplets technique, have been proposed for minutiae matching and indexing. The minutiae triplets technique however is largely aected by minutiae distortions and occlusions and hence can rarely produce a stable feature set. In this paper, the characteristics of the minutiae quadruplets and the minutiae triplets structures are compared. The minutiae quadruplet technique is proposed as a better technique because the features are robust to minutiae distortions and occlusions and it eliminates the known drawbacks of the minutiae triplet technique

    Improving Fingerprint Verification Using Minutiae Triplets

    Improving fingerprint matching algorithms is an active and important research area in fingerprint recognition. Algorithms based on minutia triplets, an important matcher family, present some drawbacks that impact their accuracy, such as dependency to the order of minutiae in the feature, insensitivity to the reflection of minutiae triplets, and insensitivity to the directions of the minutiae relative to the sides of the triangle. To alleviate these drawbacks, we introduce in this paper a novel fingerprint matching algorithm, named M3gl. This algorithm contains three components: a new feature representation containing clockwise-arranged minutiae without a central minutia, a new similarity measure that shifts the triplets to find the best minutiae correspondence, and a global matching procedure that selects the alignment by maximizing the amount of global matching minutiae. To make M3gl faster, it includes some optimizations to discard non-matching minutia triplets without comparing the whole representation. In comparison with six verification algorithms, M3gl achieves the highest accuracy in the lowest matching time, using FVC2002 and FVC2004 databases

    Biometrics based privacy-preserving authentication and mobile template protection

    Smart mobile devices are playing a more and more important role in our daily life. Cancelable biometrics is a promising mechanism to provide authentication to mobile devices and protect biometric templates by applying a noninvertible transformation to raw biometric data. However, the negative effect of nonlinear distortion will usually degrade the matching performance significantly, which is a nontrivial factor when designing a cancelable template. Moreover, the attacks via record multiplicity (ARM) present a threat to the existing cancelable biometrics, which is still a challenging open issue. To address these problems, in this paper, we propose a new cancelable fingerprint template which can not only mitigate the negative effect of nonlinear distortion by combining multiple feature sets, but also defeat the ARM attack through a proposed feature decorrelation algorithm. Our work is a new contribution to the design of cancelable biometrics with a concrete method against the ARM attack. Experimental results on public databases and security analysis show the validity of the proposed cancelable template

    A comparison of 2D and 3D Delaunay triangulations for fingerprint authentication

    The two-dimensional (2D) Delaunay triangulation-based structure, i.e., Delaunay triangle, has been widely used in fingerprint authentication. However, we also notice the existence of three-dimensional (3D) Delaunay triangulation, which has not been extensively explored. Inspired by this, in this paper, the features of both 2D and 3D Delaunay triangulation-based structures are investigated and the findings show that a 3D Delaunay structure, e.g., Delaunay tetrahedron, can provide more feature types and a larger number of elements than a 2D Delaunay structure, which was expected to provide a higher discriminative capability. However, higher discrimination does not necessarily lead to better performance, especially in biometric applications, when biometric uncertainty is unavoidable. Experimental results show that the biometric uncertainty such as missing or spurious minutiae causes more negative influence on the 3D Delaunay triangulation than that on the 2D Delaunay triangulation in three out of four experimental data sets
