IMITATOR II: A Tool for Solving the Good Parameters Problem in Timed Automata
We present here Imitator II, a new version of Imitator, a tool implementing
the "inverse method" for parametric timed automata: given a reference valuation
of the parameters, it synthesizes a constraint such that, for any valuation
satisfying this constraint, the system behaves the same as under the reference
valuation in terms of traces, i.e., alternating sequences of locations and
actions. Imitator II also implements the "behavioral cartography algorithm",
allowing us to solve the following good parameters problem: find a set of
valuations within a given bounded parametric domain for which the system
behaves well. We present new features and optimizations of the tool, and give
results of applications to various examples of asynchronous circuits and

Parametric Schedulability Analysis of Fixed Priority Real-Time Distributed Systems
Parametric analysis is a powerful tool for designing modern embedded systems,
because it permits to explore the space of design parameters, and to check the
robustness of the system with respect to variations of some uncontrollable
variable. In this paper, we address the problem of parametric schedulability
analysis of distributed real-time systems scheduled by fixed priority. In
particular, we propose two different approaches to parametric analysis: the
first one is a novel technique based on classical schedulability analysis,
whereas the second approach is based on model checking of Parametric Timed
Automata (PTA).
The proposed analytic method extends existing sensitivity analysis for single
processors to the case of a distributed system, supporting preemptive and
non-preemptive scheduling, jitters and unconstrained deadlines. Parametric
Timed Automata are used to model all possible behaviours of a distributed
system, and therefore it is a necessary and sufficient analysis. Both
techniques have been implemented in two software tools, and they have been
compared with classical holistic analysis on two meaningful test cases. The
results show that the analytic method provides results similar to classical
holistic analysis in a very efficient way, whereas the PTA approach is slower

Language Emptiness of Continuous-Time Parametric Timed Automata
Parametric timed automata extend the standard timed automata with the
possibility to use parameters in the clock guards. In general, if the
parameters are real-valued, the problem of language emptiness of such automata
is undecidable even for various restricted subclasses. We thus focus on the
case where parameters are assumed to be integer-valued, while the time still
remains continuous. On the one hand, we show that the problem remains
undecidable for parametric timed automata with three clocks and one parameter.
On the other hand, for the case with arbitrary many clocks where only one of
these clocks is compared with (an arbitrary number of) parameters, we show that
the parametric language emptiness is decidable. The undecidability result
tightens the bounds of a previous result which assumed six parameters, while
the decidability result extends the existing approaches that deal with
discrete-time semantics only. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first
positive result in the case of continuous-time and unbounded integer
parameters, except for the rather simple case of single-clock automata
Setting Parameters for Biological Models With ANIMO
ANIMO (Analysis of Networks with Interactive MOdeling) is a software for
modeling biological networks, such as e.g. signaling, metabolic or gene
networks. An ANIMO model is essentially the sum of a network topology and a
number of interaction parameters. The topology describes the interactions
between biological entities in form of a graph, while the parameters determine
the speed of occurrence of such interactions. When a mismatch is observed
between the behavior of an ANIMO model and experimental data, we want to update
the model so that it explains the new data. In general, the topology of a model
can be expanded with new (known or hypothetical) nodes, and enables it to match
experimental data. However, the unrestrained addition of new parts to a model
causes two problems: models can become too complex too fast, to the point of
being intractable, and too many parts marked as "hypothetical" or "not known"
make a model unrealistic. Even if changing the topology is normally the easier
task, these problems push us to try a better parameter fit as a first step, and
resort to modifying the model topology only as a last resource. In this paper
we show the support added in ANIMO to ease the task of expanding the knowledge
on biological networks, concentrating in particular on the parameter settings
Modeling a distributed Heterogeneous Communication System using Parametric Timed Automata
In this report, we study the application of the Parametric Timed Automata(PTA) tool to a concrete case of a distributed Heterogeneous Communication System (HCS). The description and requirements of HCS are presented and the system modeling is explained carefully. The system models are developed in UPPAAL and validated by different test cases. Part of the system models are then converted into parametric timed automata and the schedulability checking is run to produce the schedulability regions
An Inverse Method for Policy-Iteration Based Algorithms
We present an extension of two policy-iteration based algorithms on weighted
graphs (viz., Markov Decision Problems and Max-Plus Algebras). This extension
allows us to solve the following inverse problem: considering the weights of
the graph to be unknown constants or parameters, we suppose that a reference
instantiation of those weights is given, and we aim at computing a constraint
on the parameters under which an optimal policy for the reference instantiation
is still optimal. The original algorithm is thus guaranteed to behave well
around the reference instantiation, which provides us with some criteria of
robustness. We present an application of both methods to simple examples. A
