    An American Conversation on the Post-2015 Development Agenda

    In the closing months of 2013, over 1,000 Americans gathered in communities large and small to discuss the world they want in 2030. They came together to answer a call to action from Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for every UN member state to seek public input for a new and ambitious development agenda to replace the Millennium Development Goals when they expire in 2015.From October to December 2013, the United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA), a program of the United Nations Foundation, held day-long consultations in 12 cities across America. The 16 proposed development themes listed on the MY World 2015 website of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) served as the starting point for each conversation with participants ranking each theme while adding new ideas of their own.This report provides a window into the conversations that unfolded as Americans stepped back from their daily routines to think about how a new development agenda might impact their own lives as well as the lives of citizens of other UN member states around the world. The conversations included a diverse audience from age 15 to 95 and revealed both cross cutting themes and a few surprising findings

    While enormous medical and technological advancements have been made over the last century, it is only very recently that there have been similar rates of development in the field of health information technology (HIT).This report examines some of the advancements in HIT and its potential to shape the future health care experiences of consumers. Combined with better data collection, HIT offers signi?cant opportunities to improve access to care, enhance health care quality, and create targeted strategies that help promote health equity. We must also keep in mind that technology gaps exist, particularly among communities of color, immigrants, and people who do not speak English well. HIT implementation must be done in a manner that responds to the needs of all populations to make sure that it enhances access, facilitates enrollment, and improves quality in a way that does not exacerbate existing health disparities for the most marginalized and underserved

    Patient engagement and patient-provider communication is critical to improving health outcomes and reducing healthcare costs. Most of the research in this area has focused on the adoption and use of health information technology from a provider’s point of view. There is hardly any research that puts the patient at the center of this issue. This paper places the patient at the center and discusses how health information technology tools may facilitate patient engagement. This is done by reviewing past research on patient engagement, and health information technology solutions. It then maps the issue of patient engagement to the Information Success model to provide a lens through which further research may be carried out to develop and evaluate technology solutions for improved patient engagement

    In fall 2014, Tyton Partners (formerly Education Growth Advisors), with support from the Joyce Foundation, conducted national research on the role and potential of instructional technology in the US adult education field. The objective was to understand the current state of the field with respect to technology readiness and the opportunities and challenges for increasing the use of technology-based instructional models within adult education. Through two publications, we will present the findings from our research and propose key questions and ideas to catalyze conversations among adult education leaders and practitioners, policy makers, education suppliers and entrepreneurs, and foundations and funders regarding the gaps in the adult education system and opportunities for leveraging technology to better meet the needs of underprepared adult learners. The briefs will address both demandside and supply-side dynamics.This initial publication focuses on the demand side and addresses adult education administrators' and practitioners' perspectives on the role and potential of technology to support their students' needs and objectives
