A comparison of digital transmission techniques under multichannel conditions at 2.4 GHz in the ISM BAND
In order to meet the observation quality criteria of micro-UAVs, and particularly in the context of the « Trophée Micro-Drones », ISAE/SUPAERO is studying technical solutions to transmit a high data rate from a video payload onboard a micro-UAV. The laboratory has to consider the impact of multipath and shadowing effects on the emitted signal. Therefore fading resistant transmission techniques are considered. This techniques paper have to reveal an optimum trade-off between three parameters, namely: the characteristics of the video stream, the complexity of the modulation and coding scheme, and the efficiency of the transmission, in term of BER
Weyl-Heisenberg Spaces for Robust Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing
Design of Weyl-Heisenberg sets of waveforms for robust orthogonal frequency
division multiplex- ing (OFDM) has been the subject of a considerable volume of
work. In this paper, a complete parameterization of orthogonal Weyl-Heisenberg
sets and their corresponding biorthogonal sets is given. Several examples of
Weyl-Heisenberg sets designed using this parameterization are pre- sented,
which in simulations show a high potential for enabling OFDM robust to
frequency offset, timing mismatch, and narrow-band interference
A New Reduced-Complexity Detection Scheme for Zero-Padded OFDM Transmissions
Recently, zero-padding orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (ZP-OFDM) has been proposed as an alternative solution to the traditional cyclic prefix (CP)-OFDM, to ensure symbol recovery regardless of channels nulls. Various ZP-OFDM receivers have been proposed in the literature, trading off performance with complexity. In this paper, we propose a novel low-complexity (LC) receiver for ZP-OFDM transmissions and derive an upper bound on the bit error rate (BER) performance of the LC-ZP-OFDM receiver. We further demonstrate that the LC-ZP-OFDM receiver brings a significant complexity reduction in the receiver design, while outperforming conventional minimum mean-square error (MMSE)-ZP-OFDM, supported by simulation results. A modified (M)-ZP-OFDM receiver, which requires the channel state information (CSI) knowledge at the transmitter side, is presented. We show that the M-ZP-OFDM receiver outperforms the conventional MMSE-ZP-OFDM when either perfect or partial CSI (i.e., limited CSI) is available at the transmitter side.Index Terms-Zero-padding, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), equalization
Multipath Multiplexing for Capacity Enhancement in SIMO Wireless Systems
This paper proposes a novel and simple orthogonal faster than Nyquist (OFTN)
data transmission and detection approach for a single input multiple output
(SIMO) system. It is assumed that the signal having a bandwidth is
transmitted through a wireless channel with multipath components. Under
this assumption, the current paper provides a novel and simple OFTN
transmission and symbol-by-symbol detection approach that exploits the
multiplexing gain obtained by the multipath characteristic of wideband wireless
channels. It is shown that the proposed design can achieve a higher
transmission rate than the existing one (i.e., orthogonal frequency division
multiplexing (OFDM)). Furthermore, the achievable rate gap between the proposed
approach and that of the OFDM increases as the number of receiver antennas
increases for a fixed value of . This implies that the performance gain of
the proposed approach can be very significant for a large-scale multi-antenna
wireless system. The superiority of the proposed approach is shown
theoretically and confirmed via numerical simulations. {Specifically, we have
found {upper-bound average} rates of 15 bps/Hz and 28 bps/Hz with the OFDM and
proposed approaches, respectively, in a Rayleigh fading channel with 32 receive
antennas and signal to noise ratio (SNR) of 15.3 dB. The extension of the
proposed approach for different system setups and associated research problems
is also discussed.Comment: IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communication
Design and implementation of low complexity wake-up receiver for underwater acoustic sensor networks
This thesis designs a low-complexity dual Pseudorandom Noise (PN) scheme for identity (ID) detection and coarse frame synchronization. The two PN sequences for a node are identical and are separated by a specified length of gap which serves as the ID of different sensor nodes. The dual PN sequences are short in length but are capable of combating severe underwater acoustic (UWA) multipath fading channels that exhibit time varying impulse responses up to 100 taps. The receiver ID detection is implemented on a microcontroller MSP430F5529 by calculating the correlation between the two segments of the PN sequence with the specified separation gap. When the gap length is matched, the correlator outputs a peak which triggers the wake-up enable. The time index of the correlator peak is used as the coarse synchronization of the data frame. The correlator is implemented by an iterative algorithm that uses only one multiplication and two additions for each sample input regardless of the length of the PN sequence, thus achieving low computational complexity. The real-time processing requirement is also met via direct memory access (DMA) and two circular buffers to accelerate data transfer between the peripherals and the memory. The proposed dual PN detection scheme has been successfully tested by simulated fading channels and real-world measured channels. The results show that, in long multipath channels with more than 60 taps, the proposed scheme achieves high detection rate and low false alarm rate using maximal-length sequences as short as 31 bits to 127 bits, therefore it is suitable as a low-power wake-up receiver. The future research will integrate the wake-up receiver with Digital Signal Processors (DSP) for payload detection. --Abstract, page iv
