    Robust Channel Estimation in Multiuser Downlink 5G Systems Under Channel Uncertainties

    In wireless communication, the performance of the network highly relies on the accuracy of channel state information (CSI). On the other hand, the channel statistics are usually unknown, and the measurement information is lost due to the fading phenomenon. Therefore, we propose a channel estimation approach for downlink communication under channel uncertainty. We apply the Tobit Kalman filter (TKF) method to estimate the hidden state vectors of wireless channels. To minimize the maximum estimation error, a robust minimax minimum estimation error (MSE) estimation approach is developed while the QoS requirements of wireless users is taken into account. We then formulate the minimax problem as a non-cooperative game to find an optimal filter and adjust the best behavior for the worst-case channel uncertainty. We also investigate a scenario in which the actual operating point is not exactly known under model uncertainty. Finally, we investigate the existence and characterization of a saddle point as the solution of the game. Theoretical analysis verifies that our work is robust against the uncertainty of the channel statistics and able to track the true values of the channel states. Additionally, simulation results demonstrate the superiority of the model in terms of MSE value over related techniques

    Motion capture sensing techniques used in human upper limb motion: a review

    Purpose Motion capture system (MoCap) has been used in measuring the human body segments in several applications including film special effects, health care, outer-space and under-water navigation systems, sea-water exploration pursuits, human machine interaction and learning software to help teachers of sign language. The purpose of this paper is to help the researchers to select specific MoCap system for various applications and the development of new algorithms related to upper limb motion. Design/methodology/approach This paper provides an overview of different sensors used in MoCap and techniques used for estimating human upper limb motion. Findings The existing MoCaps suffer from several issues depending on the type of MoCap used. These issues include drifting and placement of Inertial sensors, occlusion and jitters in Kinect, noise in electromyography signals and the requirement of a well-structured, calibrated environment and time-consuming task of placing markers in multiple camera systems. Originality/value This paper outlines the issues and challenges in MoCaps for measuring human upper limb motion and provides an overview on the techniques to overcome these issues and challenges

    Observing and tracking bandlimited graph processes from sampled measurements

    A critical challenge in graph signal processing is the sampling of bandlimited graph signals; signals that are sparse in a well-defined graph Fourier domain. Current works focused on sampling time-invariant graph signals and ignored their temporal evolution. However, time can bring new insights on sampling since sensor, biological, and financial network signals are correlated in both domains. Hence, in this work, we develop a sampling theory for time varying graph signals, named graph processes, to observe and track a process described by a linear state-space model. We provide a mathematical analysis to highlight the role of the graph, process bandwidth, and sample locations. We also propose sampling strategies that exploit the coupling between the topology and the corresponding process. Numerical experiments corroborate our theory and show the proposed methods trade well the number of samples with accuracy
