    Diseño de un controlador de seguimiento para un sistema SISO de servoposicionamiento neumático

    Pneumatic systems have many advantages, such as simplicity, reliability, low-cost, long life, etc. making them attractive for rapid development and widespread application, but the complexity of the airflow through the valve port and the friction between the cylinder and piston make it difficult to establish an exact mathematical model and control the pneumatic system with high precision. Experiments were conducted with a 25 mm bore rod-less pneumatic cylinder and a 5/3 way proportional control valve. In this contribution, I propose a nonlinear robust tracking control strategy to solve the tracking problem of the servo pneumatic positioning system. The approach is novel in the sense that it takes into account the nonlinearities inherent to pneumatic servo positioning systems and considers position, velocity and pressure difference in the chambers of the pneumatic cylinder as feedback states. The suggested control strategy is implemented in simulation and on the real system. Experimental results from an implementation on a test ring show a high position tracking control performance.Los sistemas neumáticos tienen varias ventajas que permitieron su rápido desarrollo y uso generalizado, tales como: simplicidad, confiabilidad, bajo costo, larga vida etc. Sin embargo, la complejidad del flujo de aire a través de los orificios de la válvula y la naturaleza de la fuerza de fricción entre las paredes del cilindro y el pistón, dificultan la obtención de modelos matemáticos exactos y el control de los sistemas neumáticos con alta precisión. Experimentos fueron llevados a cabo con un cilindro sin vástago de 25 mm de diámetro y una válvula de control proporcional de 5 puertos -3 vías. En este artículo, proponemos una estrategia de control de posicionamiento robusta para solucionar el problema de un sistema de servo posicionamiento neumático. El enfoque es novedoso en el sentido de que tiene en cuenta las no linealidades inherentes a los sistemas de servo posicionamiento neumático y considera posición, velocidad y diferencia de presiones en las cámaras del cilindro neumático como estados de retroalimentación.  La estrategia de control propuesta es implementada en simulación y sobre el sistema real. Los resultados experimentales de la implementación de la estrategia en el sistema de servo-posicionamiento  neumático muestran un alto desempeño en el control de seguimiento de posición

    Modeling and controller design of an industrial hydraulic actuator system in the presence of friction and internal leakage

    This paper presents a robust controller scheme and its capabilities to control the position tracking performance of an electro-hydraulic actuator system. Sliding mode control with fixed and varying boundary layer is proposed in the scheme. It is aimed to compensate nonlinearities and uncertainties caused by the presence of friction and internal leakage. Its capabilities are verified through simulations in Matlab Simulink environment. The friction was represented by the LuGre model and the internal leakage was assumed to change. The results indicate that the scheme successfully improves the robustness and the tracking accuracy of the system. This improvement offers a significant contribution in the control of modern equipment positioning applications

    Loads Simulator System for Testing and Qualification of Flight Actuators

    The flight actuation system plays important role in the accurate guidance of the flight vehicles. The actuators driving the control surfaces are aerodynamically loaded during flight. The design, testing and selection process of the flight actuators play important role to ensure the stable and safe flight. Since a reliable flight actuation system can ensure appropriate guidance, the importance of qualification process cannot be neglected. Qualification of the actuators through field trials is a very costly and time-consuming process. The testing process using real flights takes more time and is costly. For ground testing, aerodynamic loading systems are used. The aerodynamic loading system is ground-based hardware in the loop (HWIL) simulator that can be used for exerting aerodynamic loads on actuation system of flight vehicles in real-time experiment. The actuation system under test is directly connected to the loading motor through a stiff shaft and the aerodynamics loading is applied in real time according to the flight trajectory generated by a flight computer

    Advancing Control for Shield Tunneling Machine by Backstepping Design with LuGre Friction Model

    Shield tunneling machine is widely applied for underground tunnel construction. The shield machine is a complex machine with large momentum and ultralow advancing speed. The working condition underground is rather complicated and unpredictable, and brings big trouble in controlling the advancing speed. This paper focused on the advancing motion control on desired tunnel axis. A three-state dynamic model was established with considering unknown front face earth pressure force and unknown friction force. LuGre friction model was introduced to describe the friction force. Backstepping design was then proposed to make tracking error converge to zero. To have a comparison study, controller without LuGre model was designed. Tracking simulations of speed regulations and simulations when front face earth pressure changed were carried out to show the transient performances of the proposed controller. The results indicated that the controller had good tracking performance even under changing geological conditions. Experiments of speed regulations were carried out to have validations of the controllers

    TIP trajectory tracking of flexible-joint manipulators

    In most robot applications, the control of the manipulator’s end-effector along a specified desired trajectory is the main concern. In these applications, the end-effector (tip) of the manipulator is required to follow a given trajectory. Several methods have been so far proposed for the motion control of robot manipulators. However, most of these control methods ignore either joint friction or joint elasticity which can be caused by the transmission systems (e.g. belts and gearboxes). This study aims at development of a comprehensive control strategy for the tip-trajectory tracking of flexible-joint robot manipulators. While the proposed control strategy takes into account the effect of the friction and the elasticity in the joints, it also provides a highly accurate motion for the manipulator’s end-effector. During this study several approaches have been developed, implemented and verified experimentally/numerically for the tip trajectory tracking of robot manipulators. To compensate for the elasticity of the joints two methods have been proposed; they are a composite controller whose design is based on the singular perturbation theory and integral manifold concept, and a swarm controller which is a novel biologically-inspired controller and its concept is inspired by the movement of real biological systems such as flocks of birds and schools of fishes. To compensate for the friction in the joints two new approaches have been also introduced. They are a composite compensation strategy which consists of the non-linear dynamic LuGre model and a Proportional-Derivative (PD) compensator, and a novel friction compensation method whose design is based on the Work-Energy principle. Each of these proposed controllers has some advantages and drawbacks, and hence, depending on the application of the robot manipulator, they can be employed. For instance, the Work-Energy method has a simpler form than the LuGre-PD compensator and can be easily implemented in industrial applications, yet it provides less accuracy in friction compensation. In addition to design and develop new controllers for flexible-joint manipulators, another contribution of this work lays in the experimental verification of the proposed control strategies. For this purpose, experimental setups of a two-rigid-link flexible-joint and a single-rigid-link flexible-joint manipulators have been employed. The proposed controllers have been experimentally tested for different trajectories, velocities and several flexibilities of the joints. This ensures that the controllers are able to perform effectively at different trajectories and speeds. Besides developing control strategies for the flexible-joint manipulators, dynamic modeling and vibration suppression of flexible-link manipulators are other parts of this study. To derive dynamic equations for the flexible-link flexible-joint manipulators, the Lagrange method is used. The simulation results from Lagrange method are then confirmed by the finite element analysis (FEA) for different trajectories. To suppress the vibration of flexible manipulators during the manoeuvre, a collocated sensor-actuator is utilized, and a proportional control method is employed to adjust the voltage applied to the piezoelectric actuator. Based on the controllability of the states and using FEA, the optimum location of the piezoelectric along the manipulator is found. The effect of the controller’s gain and the delay between the input and output of the controller are also analyzed through a stability analysis

    Design and Analysis of Long-Stroke Planar Switched Reluctance Motor for Positioning Applications

    This paper presents the design, control, and experimental performance evaluation of a long-stroke planar switched reluctance motor (PSRM) for positioning applications. Based on comprehensive consideration of the electromagnetic and mechanical characteristics of the PSRM, a motor design is first developed to reduce the force ripple and deformation. A control scheme with LuGre friction compensation is then proposed to improve the positioning accuracy of the PSRM. Furthermore, this control scheme is proven to ensure the stable motion of the PSRM system. Additionally, the response speed and steady-state error of the PSRM system with this control scheme are theoretically analyzed. Finally, the experimental results are presented and analyzed. The effectiveness of the precision long-stroke motion of the PSRM and its promise for use in precision positioning applications are verified experimentally

    Full- and Reduced-order Model of Hydraulic Cylinder for Motion Control

    This paper describes the full- and reduced-order models of an actuated hydraulic cylinder suitable for system dynamics analysis and motion control design. The full-order model incorporates the valve spool dynamics with combined dead-zone and saturation nonlinearities - inherent for the orifice flow. It includes the continuity equations of hydraulic circuits coupled with the dynamics of mechanical part of cylinder drive. The resulted model is the fifth-order and nonlinear in states. The reduced model neglects the fast valve spool dynamics, simplifies both the orifice and continuity equations through an aggregation, and considers the cylinder rod velocity as output of interest. The reduced model is second-order that facilitates studying the system behavior and allows for direct phase plane analysis. Dynamics properties are addressed in details, for both models, with focus on the frequency response, system damping, and state trajectories related to the load pressure and relative velocity.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures, IEEE conferenc
