A Survey on Face Recognition Techniques
Face detection is a computer technology that determines the locations and sizes of human faces in arbitrary (digital) images. It detects facial features and ignores anything else, such as buildings, trees and bodies. Face detection can be regarded as a specific case of object-class detection. In object-class detection, the task is to find the locations and sizes of all objects in an image that belong to a given class. Examples include upper torsos, pedestrians, and cars. Face detection can be regarded as a more general case of face localization. These days face detection is current research area. The face detection is normally done using ANN, CBIR, LDA and PCA. An Efficient CBIR Technique with YUV Color Space and Texture Features
In areas of government, academia and hospitals, large collections of digital images are being created. These image collections are the product of digitizing existing collections of analogue photographs, diagrams, drawings, paintings, and prints. Retrieving the specified similar image from a large dataset is very difficult. A new image retrieval system is presented in this paper, which used YUV color space and wavelet transform approach for feature extraction. Firstly, the color space is quantified in non-equal intervals, then constructed one dimension feature vector and represented the color feature. Similarly, the texture feature extraction is obtained by using wavelet. Finally, color feature and texture feature are combined based on wavelet transform. The image retrieval experiments specified that visual features were sensitive for different type images. The color features opted to the rich color image with simple variety. Texture feature opted to the complex images. At the same time, experiments reveal that YUV texture feature based on wavelet transform has better effective performance and stability than the RGB and HSV. The same work is performed for the RGB and HSV color space and their results are compared with the proposed system. The result shows that CBIR with the YUV color space retrieves image with more accuracy and reduced retrieval time. Keywords---Content based image retrieval, Wavelet transforms, YUV, HSV, RG
Integrated Multiple Features for Tumor Image Retrieval Using Classifier and Feedback Methods
AbstractThe content based image retrieval method greatly assists in retrieving medical images close to the query image from a large database basing on their visual features. This paper presents an effective approach in which the region of the object is extracted with the help of multiple features ignoring the background of the object by employing edge following segmentation method followed by extracting texture and shape characteristics of the images. The former is extracted with the help of Steerable filter at different orientations and radial Chebyshev moments are used for extracting the later. Initially the images similar to the query image are extracted from a large group of medical images. Then the search is by accelerating the retrieval process with the help of Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier. The performance of the retrieval system is enhanced by adapting the subjective feedback method. The experimental results show that the proposed region based multiple features and integrated with classifier and subjective feedback method yields better results than classical retrieval systems

The Optimisation of Elementary and Integrative Content-Based Image Retrieval Techniques
Image retrieval plays a major role in many image processing applications. However, a number of factors (e.g. rotation, non-uniform illumination, noise and lack of spatial information) can disrupt the outputs of image retrieval systems such that they cannot produce the desired results. In recent years, many researchers have introduced different approaches to overcome this problem. Colour-based CBIR (content-based image retrieval) and shape-based CBIR were the most commonly used techniques for obtaining image signatures. Although the colour histogram and shape descriptor have produced satisfactory results for certain applications, they still suffer many theoretical and practical problems. A prominent one among them is the well-known “curse of dimensionality “.
In this research, a new Fuzzy Fusion-based Colour and Shape Signature (FFCSS) approach for integrating colour-only and shape-only features has been investigated to produce an effective image feature vector for database retrieval. The proposed technique is based on an optimised fuzzy colour scheme and robust shape descriptors.
Experimental tests were carried out to check the behaviour of the FFCSS-based system, including sensitivity and robustness of the proposed signature of the sampled images, especially under varied conditions of, rotation, scaling, noise and light intensity. To further improve retrieval efficiency of the devised signature model, the target image repositories were clustered into several groups using the k-means clustering algorithm at system runtime, where the search begins at the centres of each cluster. The FFCSS-based approach has proven superior to other benchmarked classic CBIR methods, hence this research makes a substantial contribution towards corresponding theoretical and practical fronts
The proliferation of digital medical imaging modalities in hospitals and other
diagnostic facilities has created huge repositories of valuable data, often
not fully explored. Moreover, the past few years show a growing trend
of data production. As such, studying new ways to index, process and
retrieve medical images becomes an important subject to be addressed by
the wider community of radiologists, scientists and engineers. Content-based
image retrieval, which encompasses various methods, can exploit the visual
information of a medical imaging archive, and is known to be beneficial to
practitioners and researchers. However, the integration of the latest systems
for medical image retrieval into clinical workflows is still rare, and their
effectiveness still show room for improvement.
This thesis proposes solutions and methods for multimodal information
retrieval, in the context of medical imaging repositories. The major
contributions are a search engine for medical imaging studies supporting
multimodal queries in an extensible archive; a framework for automated
labeling of medical images for content discovery; and an assessment and
proposal of feature learning techniques for concept detection from medical
images, exhibiting greater potential than feature extraction algorithms that
were pertinently used in similar tasks. These contributions, each in their
own dimension, seek to narrow the scientific and technical gap towards
the development and adoption of novel multimodal medical image retrieval
systems, to ultimately become part of the workflows of medical practitioners,
teachers, and researchers in healthcare.
As contribuições
Estas contribuições procuram reduzir as dificuldades tĂ©cnicas e cientĂficas
