    Rough Sets Based Association Rules Application for Knowledge-Based System Design

    [[abstract]]The Internet has emerged as the primary database, and technological platform for electronic business (EB), including the emergence of online retail concerns. Knowledge collection, verification, distribution, storage, and re-use are all essential elements in retail. They are required for decision-making or problem solving by expert consultants, as well as for the accumulation of customers and market knowledge for use by managers in their attempts to increase sales. Previous data mining algorithms usually assumed that input data was precise and clean, this assumes would be eliminated if the best rule for each particular situation. The Algorithm we used in this study however, proved to function even when the input data was vague and unclean. We provided an assessment model of brand trust as an example, to show that the algorithm was able to provide decision makers additional reliable information, in the hope of building a rough set theoretical model and base of resources that would better suit user demand.[[incitationindex]]EI[[booktype]]電子

    Manager Unethical Behavior During The New Economy Bubble

    This paper investigates factors that brought about the surge in manager unethical behavior within the US economy. Key structural causes are the weak internal control, perverse incentives related to managers’ compensation, conflicts of interest in the banking and auditing sectors. Unethical behavior was further enhanced by the large economic noise specific to the IT bubble, which emerged in the late nineties against the background of increased deregulation in the goods and financial markets.     Emerging Artificial Societies Through Learning

    The NewTies project is implementing a simulation in which societies of agents are expected to de-velop autonomously as a result of individual, population and social learning. These societies are expected to be able to solve environmental challenges by acting collectively. The challenges are in-tended to be analogous to those faced by early, simple, small-scale human societies.     Rebuilding Corporate Leadership: How Directors Can Link Long-Term Performance with Public Goals

    This report examines how efforts to build public trust and long-term value have coalesced to encourage many large, global corporations to pay greater attention to their longer-term interests by striking a balance between short-term commercial pursuits and such societal concerns as the environment, labor standards, and human rights. Many companies have also found ways to turn such concerns as the effects of climate change and other environmental damage into profitable commercial opportunities. This report also explores how all corporate boards could take a more active part in considering such issues and improving the reporting of financial and non-financial measures of corporate performance broadly conceived. In our view, directors could do more with their current authority to motivate managements to greater innovation, and to support managements in finding long-term value solutions to the numerous economic and societal pressures they face

    This project considers the extent to which the public could cope with complex price or tariff structures such as those that might be considered in the context of a national congestion pricing scheme. The key elements of the brief were: • to review existing studies of road pricing schemes to assess what information and evidence already exists on the key issues; • to identify what can be learned about pricing structures from other transport modes and other industries and in particular what issues and conclusions might be transferable; • to improve the general understanding of the relationship between information and people’s ability to respond; and • to recommend what further research would be most valuable to fill evidence gaps and enable conclusions to be drawn about an effective structure
