Multiuser MIMO-OFDM for Next-Generation Wireless Systems
This overview portrays the 40-year evolution of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) research. The amelioration of powerful multicarrier OFDM arrangements with multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems has numerous benefits, which are detailed in this treatise. We continue by highlighting the limitations of conventional detection and channel estimation techniques designed for multiuser MIMO OFDM systems in the so-called rank-deficient scenarios, where the number of users supported or the number of transmit antennas employed exceeds the number of receiver antennas. This is often encountered in practice, unless we limit the number of users granted access in the base station’s or radio port’s coverage area. Following a historical perspective on the associated design problems and their state-of-the-art solutions, the second half of this treatise details a range of classic multiuser detectors (MUDs) designed for MIMO-OFDM systems and characterizes their achievable performance. A further section aims for identifying novel cutting-edge genetic algorithm (GA)-aided detector solutions, which have found numerous applications in wireless communications in recent years. In an effort to stimulate the cross pollination of ideas across the machine learning, optimization, signal processing, and wireless communications research communities, we will review the broadly applicable principles of various GA-assisted optimization techniques, which were recently proposed also for employment inmultiuser MIMO OFDM. In order to stimulate new research, we demonstrate that the family of GA-aided MUDs is capable of achieving a near-optimum performance at the cost of a significantly lower computational complexity than that imposed by their optimum maximum-likelihood (ML) MUD aided counterparts. The paper is concluded by outlining a range of future research options that may find their way into next-generation wireless systems
Visualization on colour based flow vector of thermal image for movement detection during interactive session
Recently thermal imaging is exploited in applications such as motion and face detection. It has drawn attention many researchers to build such technology to improve lifestyle. This work proposed a technique to detect and identify a motion in sequence images for the application in security monitoring system or outdoor surveillance. Conventional system might cause false information with the present of shadow. Thus, methods employed in this work are Canny edge detector method, Lucas Kanade and Horn Shunck algorithms, to overcome the major problem when using thresholding method, which is only intensity or pixel magnitude is considered instead of relationships between the pixels. The results obtained could be observed in flow vector parameter and the segmentation colour based image for the time frame from 1 to 10 seconds. The visualization of both the parameters clarified the movement and changes of pixel intensity between two frames by the supportive colour segmentation, either in smooth or rough motion. Thus, this technique may contribute to others application such as biometrics, military system, and surveillance machine

Adaptive MMSE multiuser receivers in MIMO OFDM wireless communication systems
In a bid to cope with challenges of increasing demand for higher data rate, better quality of service, and higher network capacity, there is a migration from Single Input Single Output (SISO) antenna technology to a more promising Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna technology. On the other hand, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) technique has emerged as a very popular multi-carrier modulation technique, thus it is considered as a promising solution to enhance the data rate of future broadband wireless communication systems.
The first contribution of this thesis is the development of a low complexity adaptive algorithm that is robust against slow and fast fading channel scenarios, in comparison to the conventional individual parameter estimation by E. Teletar in his famous paper of 1999. Implementing the Adaptive MMSE Receivers in MIMO OFDM systems which I refer to (AMUD MIMO OFDM), combines the adaptive minimum mean square error multiuser receiver's scheme with prior information of the channel and interference cancelation in the spatial domain, achieves enhanced joint channel estimation and signal detection which makes the new technique effectively mobile.
A mathematical analysis and simulation results to estimate the Information Capacity of Mobile Communication system with MMSE DFE and OFDM receivers were investigated. The capacity of a stationary channel with ISI is achievable by both the single carrier MMSE DFE and multicarrier modulation over narrow sub channels with OFDM receivers. The achieved capacity result shows that in both techniques single carrier and multicarrier, apart from different implementations are essentially identical when it comes to achievable criteria for information channel capacity.
Lastly, AMUD MIMO OFDM were compared with both adaptive vector pre-coding and iterative system and their performance were fantastic, results shows that it will assure transmission over a high channel capacity
Hybrid Iterative Multiuser Detection for Channel Coded Space Division Multiple Access OFDM Systems
Space division multiple access (SDMA) aided orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems assisted by efficient multiuser detection (MUD) techniques have recently attracted intensive research interests. The maximum likelihood detection (MLD) arrangement was found to attain the best performance, although this was achieved at the cost of a computational complexity, which increases exponentially both with the number of users and with the number of bits per symbol transmitted by higher order modulation schemes. By contrast, the minimum mean-square error (MMSE) SDMA-MUD exhibits a lower complexity at the cost of a performance loss. Forward error correction (FEC) schemes such as, for example, turbo trellis coded modulation (TTCM), may be efficiently combined with SDMA-OFDM systems for the sake of improving the achievable performance. Genetic algorithm (GA) based multiuser detection techniques have been shown to provide a good performance in MUD-aided code division multiple access (CDMA) systems. In this contribution, a GA-aided MMSE MUD is proposed for employment in a TTCM assisted SDMA-OFDM system, which is capable of achieving a similar performance to that attained by its optimum MLD-aided counterpart at a significantly lower complexity, especially at high user loads. Moreover, when the proposed biased Q-function based mutation (BQM) assisted iterative GA (IGA) MUD is employed, the GA-aided system’s performance can be further improved, for example, by reducing the bit error ratio (BER) measured at 3 dB by about five orders of magnitude in comparison to the TTCM assisted MMSE-SDMA-OFDM benchmarker system, while still maintaining modest complexity
Deep Learning Based on Orthogonal Approximate Message Passing for CP-Free OFDM
Channel estimation and signal detection are very challenging for an
orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system without cyclic prefix
(CP). In this article, deep learning based on orthogonal approximate message
passing (DL-OAMP) is used to address these problems. The DL-OAMP receiver
includes a channel estimation neural network (CE-Net) and a signal detection
neural network based on OAMP, called OAMP-Net. The CE-Net is initialized by the
least square channel estimation algorithm and refined by minimum mean-squared
error (MMSE) neural network. The OAMP-Net is established by unfolding the
iterative OAMP algorithm and adding some trainable parameters to improve the
detection performance. The DL-OAMP receiver is with low complexity and can
estimate time-varying channels with only a single training. Simulation results
demonstrate that the bit-error rate (BER) of the proposed scheme is lower than
those of competitive algorithms for high-order modulation.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, updated manuscript, International Conference on

Low Complexity V-BLAST MIMO-OFDM Detector by Successive Iterations Reduction
V-BLAST detection method suffers large computational complexity due to its
successive detection of symbols. In this paper, we propose a modified V-BLAST
algorithm to decrease the computational complexity by reducing the number of
detection iterations required in MIMO communication systems. We begin by
showing the existence of a maximum number of iterations, beyond which, no
significant improvement is obtained. We establish a criterion for the number of
maximum effective iterations. We propose a modified algorithm that uses the
measured SNR to dynamically set the number of iterations to achieve an
acceptable bit-error rate. Then, we replace the feedback algorithm with an
approximate linear function to reduce the complexity. Simulations show that
significant reduction in computational complexity is achieved compared to the
ordinary V-BLAST, while maintaining a good BER performance.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figures, 2 tables. The final publication is available at
