An Iterative Co-Saliency Framework for RGBD Images
As a newly emerging and significant topic in computer vision community,
co-saliency detection aims at discovering the common salient objects in
multiple related images. The existing methods often generate the co-saliency
map through a direct forward pipeline which is based on the designed cues or
initialization, but lack the refinement-cycle scheme. Moreover, they mainly
focus on RGB image and ignore the depth information for RGBD images. In this
paper, we propose an iterative RGBD co-saliency framework, which utilizes the
existing single saliency maps as the initialization, and generates the final
RGBD cosaliency map by using a refinement-cycle model. Three schemes are
employed in the proposed RGBD co-saliency framework, which include the addition
scheme, deletion scheme, and iteration scheme. The addition scheme is used to
highlight the salient regions based on intra-image depth propagation and
saliency propagation, while the deletion scheme filters the saliency regions
and removes the non-common salient regions based on interimage constraint. The
iteration scheme is proposed to obtain more homogeneous and consistent
co-saliency map. Furthermore, a novel descriptor, named depth shape prior, is
proposed in the addition scheme to introduce the depth information to enhance
identification of co-salient objects. The proposed method can effectively
exploit any existing 2D saliency model to work well in RGBD co-saliency
scenarios. The experiments on two RGBD cosaliency datasets demonstrate the

Microgenesis, immediate experience and visual processes in reading
The concept of microgenesis refers to the development on a brief present-time scale of a percept, a thought, an object of imagination, or an expression. It defines the occurrence of immediate experience as dynamic unfolding and differentiation in which the âgermâ of the final experience is already embodied in the early stages of its development. Immediate experience typically concerns the focal experience of an object that is thematized as a âfigureâ in the global field of consciousness; this can involve a percept, thought, object of imagination, or expression (verbal and/or gestural). Yet, whatever its modality or content, focal experience is postulated to develop and stabilize through dynamic differentiation and unfolding. Such a microgenetic description of immediate experience substantiates a phenomenological and genetic theory of cognition where any process of perception, thought, expression or imagination is primarily a process of genetic differentiation and development, rather than one of detection (of a stimulus array or information), transformation, and integration (of multiple primitive components) as theories of cognitivist kind have contended.
My purpose in this essay is to provide an overview of the main constructs of microgenetic theory, to outline its potential avenues of future development in the field of cognitive science, and to illustrate an application of the theory to research, using visual processes in reading as an example
Context Based Visual Content Verification
In this paper the intermediary visual content verification method based on
multi-level co-occurrences is studied. The co-occurrence statistics are in
general used to determine relational properties between objects based on
information collected from data. As such these measures are heavily subject to
relative number of occurrences and give only limited amount of accuracy when
predicting objects in real world. In order to improve the accuracy of this
method in the verification task, we include the context information such as
location, type of environment etc. In order to train our model we provide new
annotated dataset the Advanced Attribute VOC (AAVOC) that contains additional
properties of the image. We show that the usage of context greatly improve the

Towards binocular active vision in a robot head system
This paper presents the first results of an investigation and pilot study into an active, binocular vision system that combines binocular vergence, object recognition and attention control in a unified framework. The prototype developed is capable of identifying, targeting, verging on and recognizing objects in a highly-cluttered scene without the need for calibration or other knowledge of the camera geometry. This is achieved by implementing all image analysis in a symbolic space without creating explicit pixel-space maps. The system structure is based on the âsearchlight metaphorâ of biological systems. We present results of a first pilot investigation that yield a maximum vergence error of 6.4 pixels, while seven of nine known objects were recognized in a high-cluttered environment. Finally a âstepping stoneâ visual search strategy was demonstrated, taking a total of 40 saccades to find two known objects in the workspace, neither of which appeared simultaneously within the Field of View resulting from any individual saccade
