A survey on pseudonym changing strategies for Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks
The initial phase of the deployment of Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) has
begun and many research challenges still need to be addressed. Location privacy
continues to be in the top of these challenges. Indeed, both of academia and
industry agreed to apply the pseudonym changing approach as a solution to
protect the location privacy of VANETs'users. However, due to the pseudonyms
linking attack, a simple changing of pseudonym shown to be inefficient to
provide the required protection. For this reason, many pseudonym changing
strategies have been suggested to provide an effective pseudonym changing.
Unfortunately, the development of an effective pseudonym changing strategy for
VANETs is still an open issue. In this paper, we present a comprehensive survey
and classification of pseudonym changing strategies. We then discuss and
compare them with respect to some relevant criteria. Finally, we highlight some
current researches, and open issues and give some future directions
Multi-Layer Cyber-Physical Security and Resilience for Smart Grid
The smart grid is a large-scale complex system that integrates communication
technologies with the physical layer operation of the energy systems. Security
and resilience mechanisms by design are important to provide guarantee
operations for the system. This chapter provides a layered perspective of the
smart grid security and discusses game and decision theory as a tool to model
the interactions among system components and the interaction between attackers
and the system. We discuss game-theoretic applications and challenges in the
design of cross-layer robust and resilient controller, secure network routing
protocol at the data communication and networking layers, and the challenges of
the information security at the management layer of the grid. The chapter will
discuss the future directions of using game-theoretic tools in addressing
multi-layer security issues in the smart grid.Comment: 16 page
Distributed Computing with Adaptive Heuristics
We use ideas from distributed computing to study dynamic environments in
which computational nodes, or decision makers, follow adaptive heuristics (Hart
2005), i.e., simple and unsophisticated rules of behavior, e.g., repeatedly
"best replying" to others' actions, and minimizing "regret", that have been
extensively studied in game theory and economics. We explore when convergence
of such simple dynamics to an equilibrium is guaranteed in asynchronous
computational environments, where nodes can act at any time. Our research
agenda, distributed computing with adaptive heuristics, lies on the borderline
of computer science (including distributed computing and learning) and game
theory (including game dynamics and adaptive heuristics). We exhibit a general
non-termination result for a broad class of heuristics with bounded
recall---that is, simple rules of behavior that depend only on recent history
of interaction between nodes. We consider implications of our result across a
wide variety of interesting and timely applications: game theory, circuit
design, social networks, routing and congestion control. We also study the
computational and communication complexity of asynchronous dynamics and present
some basic observations regarding the effects of asynchrony on no-regret
dynamics. We believe that our work opens a new avenue for research in both

Mean-Field-Type Games in Engineering
A mean-field-type game is a game in which the instantaneous payoffs and/or
the state dynamics functions involve not only the state and the action profile
but also the joint distributions of state-action pairs. This article presents
some engineering applications of mean-field-type games including road traffic
networks, multi-level building evacuation, millimeter wave wireless
communications, distributed power networks, virus spread over networks, virtual
machine resource management in cloud networks, synchronization of oscillators,
