An Attention-based Collaboration Framework for Multi-View Network Representation Learning
Learning distributed node representations in networks has been attracting
increasing attention recently due to its effectiveness in a variety of
applications. Existing approaches usually study networks with a single type of
proximity between nodes, which defines a single view of a network. However, in
reality there usually exists multiple types of proximities between nodes,
yielding networks with multiple views. This paper studies learning node
representations for networks with multiple views, which aims to infer robust
node representations across different views. We propose a multi-view
representation learning approach, which promotes the collaboration of different
views and lets them vote for the robust representations. During the voting
process, an attention mechanism is introduced, which enables each node to focus
on the most informative views. Experimental results on real-world networks show
that the proposed approach outperforms existing state-of-the-art approaches for
network representation learning with a single view and other competitive
approaches with multiple views.Comment: CIKM 201
Machine Learning and Integrative Analysis of Biomedical Big Data.
Recent developments in high-throughput technologies have accelerated the accumulation of massive amounts of omics data from multiple sources: genome, epigenome, transcriptome, proteome, metabolome, etc. Traditionally, data from each source (e.g., genome) is analyzed in isolation using statistical and machine learning (ML) methods. Integrative analysis of multi-omics and clinical data is key to new biomedical discoveries and advancements in precision medicine. However, data integration poses new computational challenges as well as exacerbates the ones associated with single-omics studies. Specialized computational approaches are required to effectively and efficiently perform integrative analysis of biomedical data acquired from diverse modalities. In this review, we discuss state-of-the-art ML-based approaches for tackling five specific computational challenges associated with integrative analysis: curse of dimensionality, data heterogeneity, missing data, class imbalance and scalability issues
Node Embedding over Temporal Graphs
In this work, we present a method for node embedding in temporal graphs. We
propose an algorithm that learns the evolution of a temporal graph's nodes and
edges over time and incorporates this dynamics in a temporal node embedding
framework for different graph prediction tasks. We present a joint loss
function that creates a temporal embedding of a node by learning to combine its
historical temporal embeddings, such that it optimizes per given task (e.g.,
link prediction). The algorithm is initialized using static node embeddings,
which are then aligned over the representations of a node at different time
points, and eventually adapted for the given task in a joint optimization. We
evaluate the effectiveness of our approach over a variety of temporal graphs
for the two fundamental tasks of temporal link prediction and multi-label node
classification, comparing to competitive baselines and algorithmic
alternatives. Our algorithm shows performance improvements across many of the
datasets and baselines and is found particularly effective for graphs that are
less cohesive, with a lower clustering coefficient
