The Future Knowledge Worker: an Intercultural Perspective

The paper aims to provide empirical evidence regarding the influence of cultural specificity on the capacity of the European higher education institutions of developing the future knowledge workers. Therefore, an exploratory research is employed and the qualitative approach is combined with the qualitative one. The focus is on the European business faculties since they are the main provider of the advanced economies workforce. 24 units of analysis are selected based on five criteria: university’s number of students, research level, experience on the market, presence on QS Worlds University Ranking, position occupied in national ranking and access to information; for each of them, a content analysis is applied. Then, a logistic regression analysis is employed in order to determine whether cultural dimensions (independent variables) influence the use of a specific teaching activity, the development of certain skills and faculties’ capacity of developing the future knowledge workers (dependent variables). The results show that power distance and uncertainty avoidance may decrease the odds of developing the future European knowledge worker while the long term orientation may increase these odds. All five clasical dimensions of Hofstede influence the development of graduates’ skills but only four of them have an impact on the teaching and evaluating activities, namely: power distance, individualism, masculinity and uncertainty avoidance; the second one influences academics’ attitude towards increasing the use of practical activities within the courses while the other ones have an impact on the theoretical activities

Relación entre gestión de información y sistema de aseguramiento de la calidad en Instituciones de Educación Superior. Una revisión

This article makes a review of the literature related to the relationship between information management and quality assurance in Higher Education Institutions with the intention of highlighting the communion that must exist between these aspects in order to effectively respond to informational requirements related to quality. For this, elements such as the dispersion of data, the conformation of information, the transcendence of said resource towards the strategic, the relevance of human capacity, the tacit, the explicit, and the systems of indicators as instruments of capture and development are addressed of information (as well as an example of this associated with research). The purpose is to demonstrate the role that current training institutions should assume in the area of information management within the framework of the Information Society.Introducción: Se presenta un artículo de revisión acerca de la relación entre gestión de información y aseguramiento de la calidad en Instituciones de Educación Superior-IES. O­bjetivo: Analizar el sentido de correspondencia entre la gestión de la información y el aseguramiento de la calidad como fundamento para que las IES respondan efectivamente a los requerimientos informacionales actuales relacionados con la calidad. Metodología: La sistematización metodológica integra: selección temática, estrategias de búsqueda de información, clasificación y selección de fuentes y documentos, análisis documental, síntesis de información y construcción de texto (con una finalidad descriptiva e interpretativa). Resultados y discusión: Se genera un texto argumentativo en torno a categorías tales como: dispersión de los datos, conformación de información, trascendencia de dicho recurso hacia lo estratégico, relevancia de la capacidad humana, lo tácito, lo explícito y los sistemas de indicadores como instrumentos de captura y desarrollo de información (aunado esto a un ejemplo asociado a la función sustantiva de investigación). Conclusiones: Las instituciones formadoras necesariamente deben asumir un rol protagónico en materia de gestión de información, para afrontar de la manera menos traumática las exigencias de calidad relacionadas con la Sociedad de la Información
