    The Integrated Services concept is proposed as an enhancement to the current Internet architecture, to provide a better Quality of Service (QoS) than that provided by the traditional Best-Effort service. The features of the Integrated Services are explained in this report. To support Integrated Services, certain requirements are posed on the underlying link layer. These requirements are studied by the Integrated Services over Specific Link Layers (ISSLL) IETF working group. The status of this ongoing research is reported in this document. To be more specific, the solutions to provide Integrated Services over ATM, IEEE 802 LAN technologies and low-bitrate links are evaluated in detail. The ISSLL working group has not yet studied the requirements, that are posed on the underlying link layer, when this link layer is wireless. Therefore, this state of the art report is extended with an identification of the requirements that are posed on the underlying wireless link, to provide differentiated Quality of Service

    Call blocking probabilities for Poisson traffic under the Multiple Fractional Channel Reservation policy

    In this paper, we study the performance of the Multiple Fractional Channel Reservation (MFCR) policy, which is a bandwidth reservation policy that allows the reservation of real (not integer) number of channels in order to favor calls of high channel (bandwidth) requirements. We consider a link of fixed capacity that accommodates Poisson arriving calls of different service-classes with different bandwidth-per-call requirements. Calls compete for the available bandwidth under the MFCR policy. To determine call blocking probabilities, we propose approximate but recursive formulas based on the notion of reserve transition rates. The accuracy of the proposed method is verified through simulation

    WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is an emerging broadband wireless technology for providing Last mile solutions for supporting higher bandwidth and multiple service classes with various quality of service requirement. The unique architecture of the WiMAX MAC and PHY layers that uses OFDMA to allocate multiple channels with different modulation schema and multiple time slots for each channel allows better adaptation of heterogeneous user’s requirements. The main architecture in WiMAX uses PMP (Point to Multipoint), Mesh mode or the new MMR (Mobile Multi hop Mode) deployments where scheduling and multicasting have different approaches. In PMP SS (Subscriber Station) connects directly to BS (Base Station) in a single hop route so channel conditions adaptations and supporting QoS for classes of services is the key points in scheduling, admission control or multicasting, while in Mesh networks SS connects to other SS Stations or to the BS in a multi hop routes, the MMR mode extends the PMP mode in which the SS connects to either a relay station (RS) or to Bs. Both MMR and Mesh uses centralized or distributed scheduling with multicasting schemas based on scheduling trees for routing.     Control-Based Resource Management Procedures for Satellite Networks

    This paper describes the resource management of a DVBRCS geostationary satellite network. The functional modules of the access layer aim at efficiently exploiting the link resources while assuring the contracted Quality of Service (QoS) to the traffic entering the satellite network. The main novelty is the integration between the Connection Admission Control and the Congestion Control procedures. Both them exploit the estimation of the traffic load, performed by a Kalman filter. The proposed solution has been analysed via computer simulations, which confirmed their effectiveness
