Actor Network Procedures as Psi-calculi for Security Ceremonies
The actor network procedures of Pavlovic and Meadows are a recent graphical
formalism developed for describing security ceremonies and for reasoning about
their security properties. The present work studies the relations of the actor
network procedures (ANP) to the recent psi-calculi framework. Psi-calculi is a
parametric formalism where calculi like spi- or applied-pi are found as
instances. Psi-calculi are operational and largely non-graphical, but have
strong foundation based on the theory of nominal sets and process algebras. One
purpose of the present work is to give a semantics to ANP through psi-calculi.
Another aim was to give a graphical language for a psi-calculus instance for
security ceremonies. At the same time, this work provides more insight into the

Refinement Calculus of Reactive Systems
Refinement calculus is a powerful and expressive tool for reasoning about
sequential programs in a compositional manner. In this paper we present an
extension of refinement calculus for reactive systems. Refinement calculus is
based on monotonic predicate transformers, which transform sets of post-states
into sets of pre-states. To model reactive systems, we introduce monotonic
property transformers, which transform sets of output traces into sets of input
traces. We show how to model in this semantics refinement, sequential
composition, demonic choice, and other semantic operations on reactive systems.
We use primarily higher order logic to express our results, but we also show
how property transformers can be defined using other formalisms more amenable
to automation, such as linear temporal logic (suitable for specifications) and
symbolic transition systems (suitable for implementations). Finally, we show
how this framework generalizes previous work on relational interfaces so as to
be able to express systems with infinite behaviors and liveness properties
Applying Formal Methods to Networking: Theory, Techniques and Applications
Despite its great importance, modern network infrastructure is remarkable for
the lack of rigor in its engineering. The Internet which began as a research
experiment was never designed to handle the users and applications it hosts
today. The lack of formalization of the Internet architecture meant limited
abstractions and modularity, especially for the control and management planes,
thus requiring for every new need a new protocol built from scratch. This led
to an unwieldy ossified Internet architecture resistant to any attempts at
formal verification, and an Internet culture where expediency and pragmatism
are favored over formal correctness. Fortunately, recent work in the space of
clean slate Internet design---especially, the software defined networking (SDN)
paradigm---offers the Internet community another chance to develop the right
kind of architecture and abstractions. This has also led to a great resurgence
in interest of applying formal methods to specification, verification, and
synthesis of networking protocols and applications. In this paper, we present a
self-contained tutorial of the formidable amount of work that has been done in

A Complete Axiomatization of Quantified Differential Dynamic Logic for Distributed Hybrid Systems
We address a fundamental mismatch between the combinations of dynamics that
occur in cyber-physical systems and the limited kinds of dynamics supported in
analysis. Modern applications combine communication, computation, and control.
They may even form dynamic distributed networks, where neither structure nor
dimension stay the same while the system follows hybrid dynamics, i.e., mixed
discrete and continuous dynamics. We provide the logical foundations for
closing this analytic gap. We develop a formal model for distributed hybrid
systems. It combines quantified differential equations with quantified
assignments and dynamic dimensionality-changes. We introduce a dynamic logic
for verifying distributed hybrid systems and present a proof calculus for this
logic. This is the first formal verification approach for distributed hybrid
systems. We prove that our calculus is a sound and complete axiomatization of
the behavior of distributed hybrid systems relative to quantified differential
equations. In our calculus we have proven collision freedom in distributed car
control even when an unbounded number of new cars may appear dynamically on the
