Movie Popularity Classification based on Inherent Movie Attributes using C4.5,PART and Correlation Coefficient
Abundance of movie data across the internet makes it an obvious candidate for
machine learning and knowledge discovery. But most researches are directed
towards bi-polar classification of movie or generation of a movie
recommendation system based on reviews given by viewers on various internet
sites. Classification of movie popularity based solely on attributes of a movie
i.e. actor, actress, director rating, language, country and budget etc. has
been less highlighted due to large number of attributes that are associated
with each movie and their differences in dimensions. In this paper, we propose
classification scheme of pre-release movie popularity based on inherent
attributes using C4.5 and PART classifier algorithm and define the relation
between attributes of post release movies using correlation coefficient.Comment: 6 page
A study on text-score disagreement in online reviews
In this paper, we focus on online reviews and employ artificial intelligence
tools, taken from the cognitive computing field, to help understanding the
relationships between the textual part of the review and the assigned numerical
score. We move from the intuitions that 1) a set of textual reviews expressing
different sentiments may feature the same score (and vice-versa); and 2)
detecting and analyzing the mismatches between the review content and the
actual score may benefit both service providers and consumers, by highlighting
specific factors of satisfaction (and dissatisfaction) in texts.
To prove the intuitions, we adopt sentiment analysis techniques and we
concentrate on hotel reviews, to find polarity mismatches therein. In
particular, we first train a text classifier with a set of annotated hotel
reviews, taken from the Booking website. Then, we analyze a large dataset, with
around 160k hotel reviews collected from Tripadvisor, with the aim of detecting
a polarity mismatch, indicating if the textual content of the review is in
line, or not, with the associated score.
Using well established artificial intelligence techniques and analyzing in
depth the reviews featuring a mismatch between the text polarity and the score,
we find that -on a scale of five stars- those reviews ranked with middle scores
include a mixture of positive and negative aspects.
The approach proposed here, beside acting as a polarity detector, provides an
effective selection of reviews -on an initial very large dataset- that may
allow both consumers and providers to focus directly on the review subset
featuring a text/score disagreement, which conveniently convey to the user a
summary of positive and negative features of the review target.Comment: This is the accepted version of the paper. The final version will be

Capturing user sentiments for online Indian movie reviews.
Sentiment analysis and opinion mining are emerging areas of research for analysing Web data and capturing users’ sentiments. This research aims to present sentiment analysis of an Indian movie review corpus using natural language processing and various machine learning classifiers. In this paper, a comparative study between three machine learning classifiers (Bayesian, naïve Bayesian and support vector machine [SVM]) was performed. All the classifiers were trained on the words/features of the corpus extracted, using five different feature selection algorithms (Chi-square, info-gain, gain ratio, one-R and relief-F [RF] attributes), and a comparative study was performed between them. The classifiers and feature selection approaches were evaluated using different metrics (F-value, false-positive [FP] rate and training time). The results of this study show that, for the maximum number of features, the RF feature selection approach was found to be the best, with better F-values, a low FP rate and less time needed to train the classifiers, whereas for the least number of features, one-R was better than RF. When the evaluation was performed for machine learning classifiers, SVM was found to be superior, although the Bayesian classifier was comparable with SVM. This is a novel research where Indian review data were collected and then a classification model for sentiment polarity (positive/negative) was constructed.N
General Purpose Textual Sentiment Analysis and Emotion Detection Tools
Textual sentiment analysis and emotion detection consists in retrieving the
sentiment or emotion carried by a text or document. This task can be useful in
many domains: opinion mining, prediction, feedbacks, etc. However, building a
general purpose tool for doing sentiment analysis and emotion detection raises
a number of issues, theoretical issues like the dependence to the domain or to
the language but also pratical issues like the emotion representation for
interoperability. In this paper we present our sentiment/emotion analysis
tools, the way we propose to circumvent the di culties and the applications
they are used for.Comment: Workshop on Emotion and Computing (2013
