    Congestion always occurred when the transmission rate increased the data handling capacity of the network. Congestion normally arises when the network resources are not managed efficiently. Therefore if the source delivers at a speed higher then service rate queue, the queue size will be higher. Also if the queue size is finite, then the packet will observed delay. MATLAB Software was used to carry out simulations to develop Congestion control optimization Scheme for ATM Network with the aims to reducing the congestion of Enugu ATM Network. The results of the research reveal the minimization of congestion application model for Enugu ATM using optimization and Neuro-fuzzy. The result shows that congestion control model with Optimization and Neuro-fuzzy were 0.00003153 and 0.00002098 respectively. The ATM Congestion was reduced by 0.0000105, which is 18.2% decrease after Neuro-fuzzy controller was used. The results show the application of Neuro-fuzzy model which can use to control and minimized the ATM Congestion of Enugu ATM Network. The result shows that when Neuro-fuzzy is applied the congestion and the packet queue length in the buffer will be minimized.     Adaptive Neural Network Controller for ATM Traffic

    Broadband-Integrated Services Digital Networks (B-ISDN), along with Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), were designed to meet the requirements of modern communication networks to handle multiple users and a wide variety of diverse traffic including voice, data and video. ATM responds to requests for admission to the network by analyzing whether or not the grade of service (GOS) requirement, specified in the admission request, can be guaranteed without violating the GOS guaranteed to traffic already accepted into the network. The GOS is typically a parameter such as cell loss rate (CLR), average delay, or some other measurement associated with network performance. In order to develop a tractable mathematical algorithm for controlling admission, an accurate model of the communication network and traffic in question is necessary. The complex and dynamic nature of these communication networks make them very difficult to model. Even when such a model can be developed, often with unrealistic simplifications or unsupportable assumptions, the associated mathematical algorithm is frequently excessively cumbersome and timely processing of an admission request is lost. An alternative to conventional mathematical algorithms for cases like these is the use of neural networks (NN). NNs can learn complicated functions relating the inputs and outputs of a system without prior knowledge about the system itself. For ATM B-ISDN networks, NNs can learn the function relating input traffic parameters and resulting network performance by training on an appropriate set of traffic parameter inputs and resulting GOS outputs. In this work three neural network admission controller schemes are examined. The Bayes error rate, as bounded by the Parzen window technique, is also introduced as a benchmark for measuring the performance of these admission controllers

    This chapter1 discusses the interconnection architecture of the Mobile Digital Companion. The approach to build a low-power handheld multimedia computer presented here is to have autonomous, reconfigurable modules such as network, video and audio devices, interconnected by a switch rather than by a bus, and to offload as much as work as possible from the CPU to programmable modules placed in the data streams. Thus, communication between components is not broadcast over a bus but delivered exactly where it is needed, work is carried out where the data passes through, bypassing the memory. The amount of buffering is minimised, and if it is required at all, it is placed right on the data path, where it is needed. A reconfigurable internal communication network switch called Octopus exploits locality of reference and eliminates wasteful data copies. The switch is implemented as a simplified ATM switch and provides Quality of Service guarantees and enough bandwidth for multimedia applications. We have built a testbed of the architecture, of which we will present performance and energy consumption characteristics

    Virtual lines, a deadlock-free and real-time routing mechanism for ATM networks

    In this paper, we present a routing mechanism and buffer allocation mechanism for an ATM switching fabric. Since the fabric will be used to transfer multimedia traffic, it should provide a guaranteed throughput and a bounded latency. We focus on the design of a suitable routing mechanism that is capable of fulfilling these requirements and is free of deadlocks. We will describe two basic concepts that can be used to implement deadlock-free routing. Routing of messages is closely related to buffering. We have organized the buffers into parallel FIFO's, each representing a virtual line. In this way, we not only have solved the problem of head of line blocking, but we can also give real-time guarantees. We will show that for local high-speed networks, it is more advantageous to have a proper flow control than to have large buffers. Although the virtual line concept can have a low buffer utilization, the transfer efficiency can be higher. The virtual line concept allows adaptive routing. The total throughput of the network can be improved by using alternative routes. Adaptive routing is attractive in networks where alternative routes are not much longer than the initial route(s). The network of the switching fabric is built up from switching elements interconnected in a Kautz topology

    Multimedia computing and mobile computing are two trends that will lead to a new application domain in the near future. However, the technological challenges to establishing this paradigm of computing are non-trivial. Personal mobile computing offers a vision of the future with a much richer and more exciting set of architecture research challenges than extrapolations of the current desktop architectures. In particular, these devices will have limited battery resources, will handle diverse data types, and will operate in environments that are insecure, dynamic and which vary significantly in time and location. The approach we made to achieve such a system is to use autonomous, adaptable modules, interconnected by a switch rather than by a bus, and to offload as much as work as possible from the CPU to programmable modules that is placed in the data streams.     This thesis examines and simulates a statistically multiplexed multiple access technique known as Advanced Time Division Multiple Access (ATDMA). The simulations were carried out in a multimedia traffic environment. Parameters that could optimise the network performance in terms of quality, reliability and capacity have been examined using a simulation model. This thesis also examines network architecture and signalling related issues. The simulation results were analysed to propose a suitable ATDMA frame structure in terms of the frame length and the organisation of traffic and reservation slots. The simulation results indicated that the performance of the ATDMA based system can be enhanced when delay insensitive data is transmitted as blocks of packets of a specific size. The simulation results also indicated that the performance of the ATDMA based system can be further enhanced when a video terminal is allocated a single traffic slot as opposed to multiple traffic slots. Further simulations have been carried out to determine the up-link traffic channel capacities and control channel capacities. This thesis also examined aspects that could further enhance the performance of an ATDMA based system
