The Public Library: A Photographic Essay

Over the last eighteen years, photographer Robert Dawson documented hundreds of public libraries throughout the United States. The Public Library presents an inspiring selection of his work—libraries grand and modest, from the reading room at the New York Public Library to Allensworth, California’s one-room Tulare County Free Library, built by former slaves. Essays, letters, and poetry by distinguished writers and librarians complete this impassioned tribute to a vibrant but threatened American institution. Sri Lanka: A Photographic Essay

Since 1997, the author has worked for MAG (Mines Advisory Group), documenting the impact of landmines and explosive remnants of war on countries such as Iraq, Laos, Lebanon, Sri Lanka and Sudan. Through a multimedia approach, Sutton creates photo exhibits and films to educate the public on landmines, unexploded ordnance, and small arms and light weapons

NEW Nature: A photographic essay

Gary Dwyer is an internationally accomplished educator, landscape architect and artist in a variety of landscape, sculpture and photographic genres. His photographic assignments have sent him worldwide, including climbing expeditions in the Himalayas and a UNESCO assignment to photograph World Heritage Sites in Vietnam. He was a Resident Artist at the American Academy in Rome in 2005. In this contribution to FOCUS, Gary’s images provoke us to think about the collisions between environmental and cultural values
