A novel framework for the use of workflow system in the integration of supply chain tiers
The global competition has imposed challenges to supply chain integration, mainly, during the process of obtain information to make demand management decisions. This paper proposes an integrated framework for data collection, analysis and results dissemination in the supply chain management (SCM), contributing to research and alternatives for \u201cThe Bullwhip Effect\u201d issue. In this sense, it is necessary to discuss the integration of supply chain management, Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) functionality and others systems, to enlarge this scope to the total supply chain players. The ERP web-based tool and Workflow Systems (WS) can contribute to solve issues related to supply chain management. Starting from a detailed analysis of the research background regarding current SCM definitions and integration problems, Information Technology and Communication (ITC) development and WS in order to map and ensure flow fluency; the paper proposes a model to increase the overall integrations and an application in a case study for supporting the decisions that are aligned with the company\u2019s strategic objectives. A development and integration framework for optimisation-based enterprise solutions
The operations research literature includes some papers describing collaborative work between researchers and industry. However, not much literature exists that outlines methodologies to guide the development of a decision support module and its integration into an existing information management system. Here we describe a framework to aid the collaborative development of an optimisation solution by researchers and information system developers. The proposed framework also helps in the effective integration of the information management system and the decision support module. The framework is divided into three main components: a data model, a data extractor and validator, and a solution visualisation and auxiliary platform. We also describe our experience and positive results from applying the proposed development and integration framework to a project involving the development on an optimisation-based solution for workforce scheduling and optimisation problems. We hope that this contribution would be particularly useful for less experienced researchers and practitioners who embark on a collaborative development of a decision support module based on optimisation techniques

Framework for Product Lifecycle Management integration in Small and Medium Enterprises networks
In order to improve the performance of extended enterprises, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) must be integrated into the extended networks. This integration must be carried out on several levels which are mastered by the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). But, PLM is underdeveloped in SMEs mainly because of the difficulties in implementing information systems. This paper aims to propose a modeling framework to facilitate the implementation of PLM systems in SMEs. Our approach proposes a generic model for the creation of processes and data models. Information System Integrati on: A Metadata Management Approach
This paper deal s with the integration and control of organizational information systems. The framework for this integration and control is that of Information Resource Management (IRM) - the management not only of information but al so of the processes that specify, generate, di stri bute, and consume information. Within the context of IRM, the concept of metadata -- data about data -- is introduced. A tool to manage metadata, the Information Resource Dictionary System, is defined and a data model and data architecture are presented for the system. Al so, support tool s to aid in information integration are discussed. Lastly, the Enterprise Administration function is proposed to ensure not only the proper use of the Information Resource Dictionary System but also the impl ementation of corporate i nformation system integration and control policies
Conceptual Framework for a Data Model to Support Asset Management Decision-Making Process
Part 4: Product and Asset Life Cycle Management in Smart Factories of Industry 4.0International audienceInformation and data management is nowadays a central issue to support the Asset Management (AM) decision-making process. Manufacturing companies have to take different decisions along the asset lifecycle and at different organisational levels, and, to this end, they require proper information and data management. In the literature, besides the crucial role played by information and data, there is evidence of existing gaps, especially related to information management and integration, and transformation of data into useful information. Thus, a conceptual framework is proposed to guide the definition of a data model to fulfil the previously identified gap. Generally, the framework aims at contributing to the improvement of the integration of information along the AM decision-making process. Specifically, it is intended to be aligned with the AM theory and, in particular, its fundamentals defined in the scientific literature and the ISO 5500x body of standards. Overall, thanks to the improvement of the information management and integration along with the AM decision-making, the expectation is to be capable of achieving more value-oriented decisions for the asset lifecycle
Development of an integrated product information management system
This thesis reports on a research project undertaken over a four year period investigating
and developing a software framework and application for integrating and managing
building product information for construction engineering. The research involved
extensive literature research, observation of the industry practices and interviews with
construction industry practitioners and systems implementers to determine how best to
represent and present product information to support the construction process.
Applicable product models for information representation were reviewed and evaluated
to determine present suitability. The IFC product model was found to be the most
applicable. Investigations of technologies supporting the product model led to the
development of a software tool, the IFC Assembly Viewer, which aided further
investigations into the suitability of the product model (in its current state) for the
exchange and sharing of product information. A software framework, or reusable
software design and application, called PROduct Information Management System
(PROMIS), was developed based on a non-standard product model but with flexibility
to work with the IFC product model when sufficiently mature. The software comprises
three subsystems namely: ProductWeb, ModelManager.NET and Product/Project
Service (or P2Service). The key features of this system were shared project databases,
parametric product specification, integration of product information sources, and
application interaction and integration through interface components. PROMIS was
applied to and tested with a modular construction business for the management of
product information and for integration of product and project information through the
design and construction (production) process
The United States Marine Corps Data Collaboration Requirements: Retrieving and Integrating Data From Multiple Databases
The goal of this research is to develop an information sharing and database integration model and suggest a framework to fully satisfy the United States Marine Corps collaboration requirements as well as its information sharing and database integration needs. This research is exploratory; it focuses on only one initiative: the IT-21 initiative. The IT-21 initiative dictates The Technology for the United States Navy and Marine Corps, 2000-2035: Becoming a 21st Century Force. The IT-21 initiative states that Navy and Marine Corps information infrastructure will be based largely on commercial systems and services, and the Department of the Navy must ensure that these systems are seamlessly integrated and that information transported over the infrastructure is protected and secure. The Delphi Technique, a qualitative method approach, was used to develop a Holistic Model and to suggest a framework for information sharing and database integration. Data was primarily collected from mid-level to senior information officers, with a focus on Chief Information Officers. In addition, an extensive literature review was conducted to gain insight about known similarities and differences in Strategic Information Management, information sharing strategies, and database integration strategies. It is hoped that the Armed Forces and the Department of Defense will benefit from future development of the information sharing and database integration Holistic Model
